There were some significant changes in the lineup of the Reagan administration after the assassination attempt. Remember Alexander Haig saying "I am in control here" right after the shooting? He was out as Secretary of State just over a year later. Richard V. Allen had left as National Security Adviser a few months before Haig's departure. And there were other subtle shifts in influence (less Heritage Foundation and more Neocons) that can be seen as leading up to the situation in Reagan's second administration, when Bush is widely thought to have been the one setting policy.

Just 12 day after the shooting, however, Reagan was released <from the hospital>. The president subsequently made a series of carefully staged public appearances designed to give the impression that he was recovering quickly, though in fact he remained seriously weakened for months and his workload was sharply curtailed.

coincidence.

And there were plots and/or attempts on Nixon and both Bushes. If "after WWII" is the cutoff for "modern", anyway.

That would be interesting.

Since Reagan lived, the CT aspect of that has not been considered so much.

Hinckley’s father was a financial supporter of George H.W. Bush's 1980 presidential primary campaign. Hinckley’s older brother, Scott, had a dinner date scheduled at the home of Neil Bush the day after the Reagan assassination attempt.[24][25] Neil's wife, Sharon, indicated in a newspaper interview the day after the shooting that Scott was coming to their house as a date of a girlfriend of hers, and that she didn't know "the brother [John]" but understood "that he was the renegade brother in the family." Sharon described the Hinckleys as "a very nice family" and that they had "given a lot of money to the Bush campaign."[26] This also led to various conspiracy theorists speculating that the Bush family had something to do with the assassination attempt.[27]

Though it doesn't go much with the Jodie Foster thing he had. But if the Bushes knew he was nuts than it could have been a LIHOP type operation. With somebody letting him get close enough to shoot. I wonder if anyone put it in his head Jodie Foster would be impressed.

First the grandfather, the one who traded with the Nazis. Then GHWB and his strange not knowing where he was on 11/22/63. Friends of the Hinckley's. Friends with Saudis. CIA connections. All just creepy.
