especially the ephemeral ones - like the eyeglasses from snow or the chalk shoes. The things that were clearly just someone standing there and having an idea of the moment. They are all amazing, though.

In Las Vegas, the Clark Co. Parks and Rec department has put on three (to date) contests where local artists submit their ideas for painting utility boxes (like your example in the OP). They choose five or six and supply the artists with the paint, etc. The results are often amazing. It's been going on for almost a decade - and it certainly helps the overall sterile feel of the city.

like the ones done in chalk on concrete and the notion that they are still permanent in that someone has preserved them in electronic form. I like the notion that someone can contribute a bit of their talent in such a way. This is not a criticism of artists and their livelihood, but I do think that these are acts of kindness and love to the community. Would that other professions find it in themselves to ease the mind in whatever way they could.
