Let there be peace on earth, let it begin with us....

Our Democratic lead State Department has at very least alleviated the drums of two impending wars. Thank you President Barack Obama. In 5 years you have avoided at least as many wars that could have arguably been supported as needless wars started by GW Bush in 2 full terms.

Now is a time of reflection. For the year it is "Harvest Home" when farmers would sing hymns and give thanks for the food and supplies laid in to survive the coming winter: "All is safely gathered in, Ere the Winter storms begin, Come to God's own temple come, Sing a song of harvest home...." For me and for my household the last of the supplies are in and they are more than enough. I am grateful.

For history we reflect on a martyred president. Some ask does it still matter or why it should matter. For me there is a haunt that passes through this history. In some versions, if Kennedy lives then Vietnam never happens for America. In that America 50,000 more full lives are lived. For me, I get back my original brother-not the one who's childhood died on panel 9W of the Wall....Is there ever a Nixon? Does Reagan kill the American union movement? I reflect.

I'll be 60 next Sunday. I've loved two women and buried one. Got three good kids and a passel of Grandkids. Got my scars, my regrets, and my memories. It's been an amazing and painful and joyous ride. And there still could be more I couldn't even guess to pass me yet. So I reflect on the sweet and the bittersweet and hope each of you have such a balance....Sing a song of harvest home, count the blessings you have received and thanks for being here. I treasure you all.

Yup, it's been a tough path gettin' here, but guess what - things might work out after all. NBachers Nov 2013 #3

I've spent a bit of time in the past recently and am happy to find that on the whole I'm pretty content.

I sure had my moments of doubt and pain along the way, though.
