What could have been, the good and the bad

When thinking about what could have been, I usually go to how things could have been better. If JFK or RFK had lived. If Humphrey beat Nixon or Carter had beaten Reagan. If the SCOTUS had not overturned the 2000 election and President Gore had been able to take office (a big one since GWB did so much damage that would not have happened without him.)

On the other hand, how bad could it have been with a Romney or McCain (or horrors a Palin) Presidency?

So feel free to post a what if for better or worse.

I think the better question is why didn't Carter win, what forces were in play, are still in play? NYC_SKP Nov 2013 #1

Had JFK or RFK lived, I'm afraid, then they would have been killed. If Carter had beaten Reagan maybe he'd have been killed, too.

The same forces at work in the 60's grew more powerful and we got two terms of Bush.

These forces are no weaker today, and the fact that we managed an Obama win is stunning.
