ABC panel laughs at Bill Kristol for claiming JFK would be ‘more comfortable’ as a Republican today

Panelists on ABC’s This Week couldn’t help but laugh on Sunday as conservative columnist Bill Kristol claimed that former President John F. Kennedy would be ‘more comfortable perhaps in the Republican Party of today.”

During a segment on the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s assassination, ABC News host George Stephanopolous gave Kristol a chance to weigh in on the debate over whether the the former president was a conservative or a liberal.

“He was certainly an anti-communist and a hawk and believed in a strong defense,” Kristol opined. “And the speech he was going to give in Dallas on Nov. 22, he was calling for tax cuts across the board to give people incentives to get the economy moving again.”

“So in those two respects, I think he would have been a little more comfortable perhaps in the Republican Part of today than the Democratic Party.”

Those comments elicited laughter and moans from Kristol’s fellow panelists.

He’s still a Democratic icon,” Stephanopolous noted.

“It’s interesting, this is a moment when you don’t know where the myth begins and reality begins,” former George W. Bush aide Matthew Dowd remarked. “Myth and reality got so mixed up in so many people’s minds that they’re still sorting out what was myth and what was reality.”

Pretty sure JFK would be horrified. What is it with the GOP propagating this crap?

but he'd be no Repub, for sure.

In typical conserve fashion, they think everything great in history must have been conservative....must have.

It's the same twisted logic thye use when they claim Hitler was a socialist and NAZI-ism was a left wing ideology.

They're nuckin' futz.

The tax cuts he wanted were targeted for the middle class and entrepreneurs.

In fact why do so many republican politicians have a reptilian look about them?

Also--
1- JFK was NOT by any stretch of the imagination, a hawk.
He did NOT want to stay in Vietnam, much less increase our minimal presence there.
2- He did NOT want to invade OR attack Cuba.
3-He and Krushchev both knew the other had insane, war loving military and spy agencies to deal with. Kennedy wanted detent with Soviet Union and Krushchev was on the same page.
4- He totally distorts the speech that Kennedy was to give in Dallas. And he either is ignorant of or lies about JFK's opinions on economic policy.
5- He also looks totally uncomfortable saying what he is saying either because he knows what he is saying is silly or because he is just lying.

they were primarily allied with liberals. They seem to shrewdly ally with whomever they can get to start wars I believe. But seriously they were quite different before 1970.
