You're giving away state secrets!

Next you'll be divulging the the secret to the question: What is the temperature when it is one million times colder than zero degrees Fahrenheit.

I have to go. Big black car.

He said of Ollie North (and this is a direct quote), "I should have court marshaled the bastard when I had a chance. He was one very crazy son of a gun." And by "crazy" he meant not right in the head, in need of medical attention.

lower court. From a NYT article:

By this action, the court put all three convictions in suspension, or in a ''vacated'' status, pending a review by the lower court to see if the evidence used to convict him had been tainted by testimony he had given Congress on the promise that it would not be used against him

If a lower court decides that Mr. North's Congressional testimony did not affect his trial, it could reinstate the convictions for accepting an illegal gift and aiding and abetting in the obstruction of Congress

The decision today demonstrates the difficulties in bringing to trial an official who has previously been forced to testify before Congress. [News analysis, page 7.] Prosecutors have the right to appeal today's ruling to the full 12-member panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit or to the Supreme Court. They said they were assessing what step they would take.

The prosecutors could comply with the panel's ruling and seek a hearing before the trial judge, Gerhard A. Gesell, in Federal District Court. The immunity issue centers on the question of whether a defendant can be brought to trial on the same basic facts to which he has previously testified under a grant of immunity, which could be a violation of the constitutional right against compelled self-incrimination.

it's not like North was railroaded. He clearly did what he was charged with and much more, the question became do you wait until after they've been tried for them to testify before Congress or begin the congressional investigation now and sort the rest out later.

I think North was part of a cabal, so to speak, but he was the one who suggested diverting the profits to Nicaragua and buying drugs to help launder money to fund the Contras.

He was and is part of long standing Christian Domionist or Bircher style group that include some of the most wealthy and influential people in this country. And like all such groups, they never turn on their own, the basis of their support derives from a system of patronage. Nothing is forbidden in their relationship with the government or those who they see as others, they do not the sense of fair play that Democrats believe in.
