(3,709 posts)I have been in a F1 tornado... little damage, but frightening. This was terrifying but brings to those of us who didn't go through it, a sense of what it was like for the people who did. We need to remember this when we see the victims of these storms. My heart goes out to this young couple and to their neighbors.

(11,760 posts)And that the Federal Government has been working for decades to reduce the death tolls from these sort of events. I'm a NOAA fan and that's from a near lifetime DC area resident with a long career dealing with Federal Agencies, NOAA is a first class organization.
Now, I did some work with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services....not so good as NOAA........

(60,071 posts)clothing suitable for work. I figure that if there is a tornado, good shoes and long pants and gloves will lower the risk of injury in the aftermath. I will be more able to dig my way out, and to help others.

(7,768 posts)Apparently, they survived in the concrete "safe room" that Marc Wells had built under the house. (excellent idea!)
The reference to "Autumn" is the family dog that daughter Josie took with them to the safe room.
Read where the buzzing saw sound is all the nails being pulled/ripped apart from the house all at once.
Holy shit..that was bad.
Speaks of this man's character that one of his first concerns is that of his neighbor's well-being and hoping they aren't hurt!.
