emanating from the mouths and tweets of politicians and pundits (did you know "pundit" is a Sanskrit word for "wise man"? Never has a word been so misused). And it's a sort of weapons-grade, industrial-strength *stupid* that goes beyond mere ignorance. It's intentional and targeted and defiant. It is a sort of stupid that they wave like the huge flags in front of Perkins' restaurants. You can't be that stupid without actually trying. Without working at it. Without going out looking for things to be monumentally, jaw-droppingly stupid about. Even George Bush wasn't this stupid. He started a tradition of unashamed idiocy, but Palin and Trump and Bachmann and just about everybody at Faux "News" have managed to transcend Bush's bumbling dumbness.

It's just astonishing, and I don't know where it will all end up.
