The Torch has been Passed~

Fifteen Minutes of Fame for the “Spirit of 1776? Suffrage Wagon

Posted by Marguerite Kearns on June 21, 2013 in 60-Second History Lesson

It has been a great week and there’s more to come. One hundred years ago the “Spirit of 1776? suffrage wagon made a “stir” with the coverage of its first journey in the New York Times. And one hundred years later, almost to the week, the wagon made a stir at the New York State Capitol in Albany, New York when both houses of the state legislature passed a resolution directing that July 1, 2013 be designated the “Spirit of 1776? Wagon Day in New York. Right now, the wagon resides at the New York State Museum when it isn’t out on one of its journeys. In 2012 the wagon was the centerpiece for a Governor’s exhibit called “From Seneca Falls to the Supreme Court: New York’s Women Leading the Way.” In 2010, the wagon was exhibited in March and April at the NYS Museum in Albany, NY. The state legislature resolution and press conference in 2013 was covered by a TV station, Albany public radio, several newspapers, and the web sites of women members of the NYS Legislature.

It's a party that needs to add to it's face base that already has some superstars, but needs new blood, new energy.

She is among those new faces who could take our party back in the right direction.

young child a point person in a movement. The girl's views could become more conservative as she ages, making people that are putting her on a pedestal now look like fools. I think the girl is on the right side of history and morality, so I don't see her views changing like the little conservative boy in Texas a few years back, the boy became a Liberal by the time he finished High School. His views changed in a positive direction, let's hope that if the girl does change, she becomes even more Liberal and driven to fight for what is right.

I am however trying to make a point. Women have fought for years and years for the most fundamental rights a person could have. The right to vote, equality under the law and the right to make our own damn decisions about our bodies.

We make progress yet it always comes back at us again. The Republicans have made women an issue again. We are considered stupid and unworthy. We know not what we do. They want us in the home, shutting our mouths and playing attendance to their whims.

They ridicule and demean us. They want to take the most basic health care away from us. Why? They are the most despicable neanderthals.

It's not about Madison, though I love her spunk nor is it about Wendy. It is about all women and our rights as individuals. The torch has been passed.

It is our right!
