Woman shot, killed daughter holding 4-month-old baby, cops say

A woman who fatally shot her daughter — who was holding a 4-month-old baby — on Monday night in Winter Haven told police it was a case of mistaken identity, and they could lock her up "for good," an affidavit states.

Police were called to 52-year-old Adele Bing's 18th Street house about 8:45 p.m., and arrived to find Bing's 25-year-old daughter Ruby Bing dead from an apparent gunshot wound to her chest.

The older Bing claimed that Ruby Bing was banging and kicking her door. Adele Bing said she thought it was her boyfriend, who she'd had a fight with earlier, and armed herself.

Adele Bing "stated she intended to use the firearm to kill her boyfriend, because he stated he was going to come back and kill her," the affidavit says.

3. It's tragic, but it doesn't seem like an SYG case to me.

There was no evidence or even a suggestion that her daughter was threatening her. She evidently just shot her daughter because she thought it was her boyfriend. Even if it was, she would need some basis to believe an actual threat existed at the time she pulled the trigger. Not even close to SYG.
