I would think that this would conflict with their beliefs. Or is Chinese labor and products ok to their bottom line.

(6,960 posts)Look at it this way ...
Hobby Lobby buys and imports massive quantities of products made in Communist China. Indeed, a large portion of the arts, crafts and decor products it sells are made exclusively for Hobby Lobby by Chinese laborers.
Of course, these sweat shops in China for the most part are run by or are in partnership with the government of Communist China.
Hobby Lobby really is paying a lot of money to support the Chinese government and its one-child policy (the recent announcement of a change was nominal) that essentially mandates abortion and all kinds of contraception.
So, by shopping at Hobby Lobby, you are actually enabling and encouraging forced abortion and contraception for hundreds and thousands of Chinese women. Ironic, uh?
All to the point that Hobby Lobby owner/founder/CEO David Green is one of the biggest hypocrites in the United States. It seems that he gets 'religion' only when he thinks it might affect his bottom-line.
Indeed, Green infamously wrote either last year or earlier this year that: "... honoring God is more important than turning a profit."
David Green is a LIAR.
Green and Hobby Lobby are entirely dependent upon turning a profit by selling Chinese-made products -- products made under a regime that officially is atheist and pro-abortion.

(50,254 posts)What the Chinese regime does has nothing whatsoever to do with the ideas of Marx and Engels. the "Communist Party" there is full of millionaires, and the streets of the large cities teem with both luxury hotels and the homeless. And the foreign policy of China is not driven by proletarian internationalism, but by good old right-wing nationalism(and Mandarin-supremacist nationalism at that).
Please don't use Cold War rhetoric, especially rhetoric that wasn't even accurate DURING the Cold War.
Neither genuine socialism nor genuine communism has happened anywhere yet.

Besides ... are there other political parties in China?
Or is it a one party state ... the communist party?

(50,254 posts)I saw the intended irony, but was pointing out that it wasn't ironic at all. Hobby Lobby(and WalMart) are just like the Chinese government: they are right-wing anti-worker dictatorships.
What China (and the Soviet Union in its day)had was dictatorship...but "dictatorship" isn't synonymous with "communism". There have been many dictatorships in world history just as vile as those states have or had that didn't even claim to have any connection with the idea of "communism"...
Small-c communism(which hasn't happened and may never happened) doesn't actually have to be a dictatorship at all. People don't have to struggle to provide daily necessities for themselves in order to be free. In fact, those struggling to survive(or to "move up" or "make it" in the American sense) are usually the most unfree people of all...the process makes them harsh, inflexible, intolerant and obsessively conformist. This is why so many of those people end up embracing some form of "fundamentalist" religion.

(37,153 posts)...then "communist China" is the term of choice.
This isn't a debating society with rules for being incorrect on technical points. It's about spelling out that people who loudly proclaim "no compromise" are in fact perfectly willing to do so.

(50,254 posts)An even earlier irony, and a far deeper one, was that the corporate wing of the GOP actually became, during the Bush administration, the most uncompromising defenders of the Chinese regime in all of American politics. I've always remembered watching #41 making a brief statement after the Tienenman Square massacre in which he looked far more miffed at the press for expecting him to denouncing the slaughter of innocent human beings than at the actual slaughter itself(about which he appeared to be slightly less annoyed than he would have been if he'd gone to his country club and been told his tee-off time would be slightly delayed because a foursome of Irish Catholics were out there ahead of him.)

(23,943 posts)My husband and I have raised this very question many times. The whole store is packed to the rafters with goods from China. Talk about the ultimate in hypocrisy.
One of many places I no longer shop.

(7,402 posts)The management employees that do probably pay roughly half of the insurance premium amount so why don't the employees have any say in what coverage they get. The Court is really stepping into the swamp if they decide the owner that is paying half the premium trumps the employee that pays the other half. No equal protection and the establishment of religious values on the backs of the employees. They should be able to knock this down on several fronts but I don't expect that to happen.
