Kmart
Several stores on this list will be open on Thanksgiving, but Kmart has outdone them all by announcing it will be open 41 hours straight, starting at the obscene hour of 6am on Thanksgiving Day.

McDonald's
McDonalds, never one to shy away from screwing employees, recently found itself caught up in a blizzard of negative PR for putting its business principles into writing in the form of a list of holiday budget tips for its workers, whose pay averages $8 per hour. (This just months after a stunningly McStupid employee budget guide that allowed zero dollars for heat and $20 for healthcare.)

Sears
With an Ayn Rand-worshipping libertarian at the helm (financier Eddie Lampert), its no wonder Sears has become the poster child of worker misery (Sears Holdings also now owns Kmart). When he took over Sears in January 2013, Lampert rolled up his sleeves, turning the company into a giant Randian experiment where workers were pitted against each other until the venerable retailer descended into a chaos of screaming matches and infighting.

Walmart
Walmart, boasting a profit of $15.7 billion last year, has distinguished itself by paying crap wages to its 2.2 million employees . In fact, the majority of its workers with children live below the poverty line.

(16,844 posts)I don't patronize any of those other businesses either. I hope one day we can have a sort of national union, where shoppers as well as employees go on strike for better wages/conditions. We have to work together. The owners depend on us to continue fighting with each other. What they fear the most is everyone standing together. Nothing can stop us if we do that.

(22,165 posts)They have always had the cleanest rest rooms. i don't order food ... just black coffee. I like to tell myself they do not "make' any money from my stops.

(7,473 posts)No food @ McD's. I want to help then lose $$, but the Paul Newman coffee is great.

i suppose to some of the kids behind the counter my 60 years make me look like an escapee from tales from the crypt

(7,473 posts)Never been questioned. I just ask for a Senior coffee-regular. I understand the price varies place to place but better than Dunkin Donuts and much less expensive.
I don 't like to ask for a 'Senior ' but my money is more important than that of McDonald's.

BUT ... BUT ... BUT corporations will do the right thing if they aren't burdened by silly labor laws and regulations! The market will correct itself!

(1,362 posts)Short of buying my first Ipad recently, I don't patronize any of the other companies at all. Don't shop at Kmart, Wallmart or Macy's. Don't eat McDs crap either...

(44 posts)I normally go to Sears for tools and stuff I didn't know they should be on my boycott list. Is Home Depot employee friendly or should I go to loews
TBF
(32,047 posts)at least in this area you get much better service there as well. I've tried to go to Home Depot because it's closer to my home and I can never find an employee in there who wants to help customers or has any clue what he/she is doing! They probably don't pay much.

(32,047 posts)boycott lists than some folks (and I have seen it on both sides - I have repug friends (well not many but a few) who will literally buy Hunts ketchup because they don't like Heinz (Theresa Heinz is married to John Kerry) and I have liberal friends who won't step foot in Chick Fil A or Hobby Lobby). But if you are in proximity to all the stores I'd choose Lowe's over Home Depot. Back home in the midwest I think Fleet Farm was much more popular than either of those choices or your local Ace Hardware if they are having holiday sales.

(26,619 posts)to find parts for my husband's old Craftsman toolbox. It was a miserable experience. Customer service non existent. Thanks for the explanation. Bye, bye Sears.
