(49,445 posts)(*a* ticket, singular)... I call it "paying my idiot tax". For a buck (MegaMillions) or 2 (PowerBall) I get several days of intense and satisfying daydreams all the while figuring it's a better investment than a bag of Doritos.
Occasionally I buy a $3 "Win for Life" scratchoff.
I have no illusions about winning; I tell my kid the odds of me winning are like being hit by lightening while being eaten by a shark.
