My first college roommate, another friend and I used to listen to this song/story every time we went on road trips to buy alcohol. I went to a college near Jackson, Miss. and Miss. had voted to comply with the law that made alcohol illegal for anyone under 21. Lou. still had the 18-to-buy law, so we would drive about 30-40 miles away to Vicksburg and cross the river there to buy our booze. Sometimes we would hang out at the bar over in Lou. or we would drive back over to Miss. and drive down the Natchez Trace and drink our stuff there. Those were good times.

I know Geoff Outlaw-who was with Arlo when they got busted for littering, he had me rolling on the floor with some of the background.

Some radio station, somewhere, plays it at noon.

I introduced my kids to it from the time they were born. Oldest 39, youngest 34

I'll be listening at noon today.

6. Arlo's "home" radio station

WAMC, out of Albany, NY will play it at noon, then they will have an interview with Arlo at 1 p.m. EDT.
www.wamc.org is the URL.
Check it out. Not only a good public radio station, but a great local station, and one of the most listened to stations in the Albany, NY area. They have a lot of repeaters too, so they get out to about 1/3 of NY state, as well as MA, CT, VT, NH, PA, and NJ.

I listen to this station religiously. There are many programs that they produce there, so though they may be an NPR affiliate, they do their own thing as well, and it is simply the best radio that I have heard in my time.

Oh, and if you hear something that you like, do us all a favor, and give something to the station. They don't ask for a minimum donation, and they only do three fund drives a year. They are a different kind of fund raiser. Many people tune into the fund drive, just to hear stories, and what's going on in the community as well.

I know that this is off topic, and I am preaching for our radio station, but hey, it's Arlo's "home" station. He's been on it, and contributes to it. So do I.

...and think of Arlo every time I drive past.

It's kind of amazing how many of the riffs from this song have made it into the verbal shorthand of my family. The ones that show up most often:
1) shovels and rakes and implements of destruction
2) and they all moved away from me on the bench there
3) blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth
4) mean nasty ugly things
and my personal favorite:
5) I'm not proud... or tired.

Posted by Arlo -- but it's getting shared around a lot and wound up in my stream. Arlo writes:

This is the current interior of Old Trinity Church, where once a long time ago, lived my dear friends, Alice & Ray Brock. A little over 20 years ago we purchased and reconsecrated the old building and created an Interfaith Church and Educational foundation.

As part of our commitment to "Feed Everyone" every year (in fact every week throughout the year), there will be many people coming to our tables. Our friends, neighbors and local businesses volunteer as always to provide the best food available to anyone and everyone (until we run out). We do lots of other great things too! From our hearts to yours whoever and wherever you are - Happy Thanksgiving!
