There were times she was overwhelmed and I thought, who wouldn't be with that level of information and pressure?
She did great when she prepared and memorized. If she didn't...well, she bombed badly.
John McCain was the biggest follower I had ever seen. He had zero ideas of his own.
In the end, I really hated her. She was spiteful and selfish.
Excellent movie, I thought. Ed Harris and Julianne Moore were fantastic. Woodie Harrelson was amazing, too.

(75,480 posts)She's mentally lazy and got caught. She's been used to getting by on her looks and personality, so even as a politician didn't feel that she had to study policy and all those things politicians should know. If she had, she wouldn't have been overwhelmed.

(31,011 posts)But she turned demanding, throwing things, and in the end...I just hated her.
You are right...she had gotten by on her looks and was very lazy.

(64,320 posts)She already knew that she had a pregnant teen; knew that she had a disabled baby; knew that her son would be sent into a war theater. She also had to have known that she didn't understand economics or world politics. I blame her for remaining ignorant and doing a very selfish thing for herself. It's her own damn fault.

(10,893 posts)Not when she and most of her Republican colleagues constantly try to ram a far-right agenda down our throats daily...an agenda that completely opposes the interests of the non-rich, gays, minorities, women, and anyone who isn't a Christian.

(11,196 posts)She was intellectually lazy and in way over her head. She was not and will never be competent enough to be President of the USA. We dodged a bullet on that one. McCain was also not competent to be President if he was afraid to even sit down with her and put her in her place. How could you expect him to be President when it was obvious that he had become afraid of the monster he helped to create.

Interesting to me, how McCain didn't give her a coming to Jesus talk, because he isn't known as a shrinking violet.

(26,650 posts)No offense, but have you been asleep the last 3.5 years? Woman has made MILLIONS off of this bobbleheaded bullshit. Lucrative to the point she quit her job as Governor after a half-term to pursue it. She has a 20-ish daughter pulling in 200k+ from Dancing with the Stars and various and sundry endorsements, getting $40k+ so SPEAK as a teen pregnancy icon.
Christ almighty, I wouldn't feel "sorry" for this woman if she was on fire in the intersection of 42nd and Lex.
And I didn't even see the movie.
That said - you have a big heart. I need more of that kind of compassion in my soul.

(31,011 posts)I already had my own opinions of her before seeing it.
Besides, by the end I hated her and in some ways worse than I did before seeing the movie. She looked spiteful and selfish.

(1,173 posts)I felt sorry as hell for Steve Schmidt though. And Nicolle Wallace. Those poor bastards had no chance of resurrecting that sinking ship.
The worst thing that election did is legitimize out-and-out stupid into our national politics; Joe the Plumber is even running for a seat. She made stupidity a badge of honor, and judging by what's come after her I'd say we're going to be felling that for a long time.

(3,574 posts)Two recent developments brought me to the same conclusion - seeing Rick Santorum on network news and asking myself "why am I seeing this repugnany piece of shit again", and of course Joe the plumber who is neither Joe nor a plumber bumbling through an O'Donnel interview.
TeamsterDem
(1,173 posts)Excellent!!!
The popularity of stupid ideas literally frightens me. I mean anyone can be wrong from time to time, but when something is so obviously untrue yet it winds up becoming a popular idea surely must be some sort of a blight on our country. I used to say that "it won't be long before the foxes are running the henhouse," but considering the teabag majority in the House I'd say that's already happened to some extent. God help us if they find more idiots to vote for them.

(28,158 posts)I read the book, so there was nothing new in the movie for me.
I feel no sympathy for her. She thought she could lie, mislead and manipulate her way into a serious position of power in this country. When her ignorance was exposed she pouted and blamed others rather than do any actual work to improve herself. She all but thrust her fingers in her ears and went through the rest of the campaign going, na-na-na-na I can't hear you.
Selfish, childish and petty people don't deserve sympathy.

(32,354 posts)The movie just confirmed what we already knew---she's the classic Meanest Girl In High School, with a few years added on. Arrogant, ignorant, and rabidly attention-seeking.
John McCain is the one you end up feeling more sympathy for, and I'm no McCain fan.......

(21,925 posts)as a probable Mittens running mate. The logic is that it will help strengthen the GOP's vote with Hispanics and diminish the claim the GOP has a war on women. Apparently, Marco Rubio has ruined his chances with his recent anti-woman legislation.
I'll give you three guesses as to who endorsed Governor Susana Martinez. Yup, that would be Palin.

(8,322 posts)It was the scene where they had moved vice-prez debate prep to Arizona, and McCain suggested they have a barbecue to which he would invite his neighbor the doctor to observe her for signs of mental instability. During the party Steve Schmidt walks over and asks the doctor what he thinks. "Well, for a woman who just had a baby, has an unwed pregnant teenage daughter, and a son in Iraq, she's doing pretty good. YOU on the other hand look like shit."
I guess I really am a bleeding heart, because that got to me. For a few seconds. Feel free to flame away.
