God damn it....

What is wrong with this country that tens of millions of people think it's a bad thing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

And a lot of these same people believe that the have mores are paying far too much money.

Apologies to those who can remember the quote more exactly than me.

with other human beings whose desire to be happy and healthy is just as great as their own. It's the most extreme form of provincialism.

Worse still, it's objectification. When you reduce another person to nothing more than a dollar figure, you deny their humanity and make them easier to hate and resent.

the answer to this. Not only am I confused, I am also saddened by

the whole thing. Soon, very soon, there must be a breaking point to this

situation. There just has to be. If not, everything will crash, even for the top

money makers. Everyday I read of despair, I see it in the streets,

I experience it myself at times. What did happen? I remember a time when

it was unthinkable to allow people to be hungry, without a home, and no job

or hope of one. I'm not just beating up on Republicans, but as I remember

we started heading south during his administration, and we are now snowballing

down the path.. I do have deep despair about our future and what it holds. Our

President can only do so much, the rest is up to us, and the greedy ones. Most

days I just want to

Those in need are made lazy with assistance, those who have it all are made stronger with assistance.

It's in the new and improved 4th Testament, The Book of Republican.

So why is it they seem repulsed if the poor, sick and elderly are actually living? It's like they want to punish the have nots as if not having isn't punishment enough. During this time of year, especially while they gorge at their festive parties and manage to get huge bonus's(while others can barely get a paycheck) it has not gotten through to their selfish little selves that there are people suffering out there. These people are not jealous of what the wealthy have. They simply want to live a decent life. Where do they get off thinking people who are hungry want to live this way--think they are lazy and if they get something they will sit there waiting for handouts? If anything those who do little but warm their butts in cushy boardroom chairs are the ones who get hand outs--on the very backs of those who make minimal wage(you can't even call it minimum for so many). DO they really think parents enjoy seeing their kids hungry, wearing shoes and clothes that no longer fit because there is no money for new?
Yet here they are "ho ho ho ing",bragging what they have already spent for gifts this year having not one ounce of compassion for those who can't even imagine what having the security of a home with decorated tree and presents underneath. On top of this many are "religious". I often wonder when I go by many huge churches that stay vacant almost every day but Sunday, are these "houses" meant to help so many in need or are they used almost for show? I realize many do not have the capabilities of housing the homeless in any
capacity but I so seldom see them using it for a place to have a small clothes tree for the needy or a food pantry of some kind. Can they use them for a budget daycare for the minimum wage parents? There are so many needs out there but how many even look? It is a question I think about every day of the year but it always seems worse this time of year when it's cold and people are out there power shopping while others shiver in the cold simply wishing for a hot cup of coffee which often times, we the tax payers, are not even allowed to give them thanks to some selfish laws in so many cities across this country.

...there is a sucker born for every one of them. He may have been low-balling his estimation.

This is just my opinion for an answer to your question as to what is wrong with this country: capitalism controls our democracy more than our democracy controls capitalism. My interpretation of that observation is that We The People are steadily ceding control over our government to the highest bidders.

It is but investment dollars to those highest bidders when they spend money to keep We The People propagandized and in division. When you hear from someone that it is wrong to lend a helping hand, you don't hear it in those exact words. You hear instead how it sucks that there are so many people in this country too lazy to help themselves and worse they expect government handouts-handouts garnered from taxes from those who do all the work. That twist of perspectives came from think tanks NOT tasked by We The People. Which so called "News" agency repeats over and over that the bulk of our nations taxes are paid by the upper 2 percent? Again a statement NOT originated by nor beneficial to the middle class but repeated by sooooo many of them.

The citizens of this nation are molded by and large by slick advertising specialists. The irony is in that the money those propaganda artist get paid comes indirectly from us via the capitalist class who more and more control our government AND our thoughts.

In my opinion, that is what is wrong with this country. FWIW I still trust in the morals of my fellow American. I don't trust our chances against that which I feel is wrong with this country while we are deliberately divided.

..in a thread posted to DU a couple of days ago, a flat screen TV.

See, what you Far left Liberals don't understand is that if we help the poor,
that only reinforced their Bad Decisions.
St Ronnie of Reagan taught us that this only ENABLES poverty!

So, it is Tough Love and Welfare Reform for those of us who actually want to help The Poor. This is an increasingly popular position among those who claim to be Democrats.

Americans are constantly told that the 'takers' are getting free stuff. And they are told that things will get better if only those poor, overtaxed 'job creators' get relief. Over and over. Hate thy neighbor. Covet their stuff, no matter how meager. People are buying Lobster with food stamps, you know.

It is constant, insidious and it is destroying our society.
