Sriracha Factory Shut Down Over 'Offensive' Odors

A case of "Sriracha or Sriracha-not."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge has given a dose of cold water to the hot sauce Sriracha, ruling Tuesday that the factory that manufactures the trendy condiment must partially shut down after neighbors complained of the spicy smells it was producing.

Judge Robert H. O'Brien found in favor of the city of Irwindale where Sriracha recently relocated, saying sauce maker Huy Fong Foods must stop any operations that could be causing the odors and make changes to mitigate them.

O'Brien's injunction, given in response to a lawsuit filed by the city on Oct. 21, does not specify what types of actions are required or force the factory to shut down altogether, the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/17SSD2h) reported.

Huy Fong Foods did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Times or The Associated Press.

I use Sriracha almost daily, usually on fried potatoes or waffle fries!

... I'd guess the smell is pretty strong.

My city could use another business.

Just not in my backyard.

they could just put in filters to their venting system.
Sounds like it was more like tear gas than just a bad smell.

But Huy Fong makes the best IMHO.

I might have to "panic hoard" a few bottles to assure a continued supply.

This was like a cloud of tear gas descending on the town. People couldn't breath and their eyes were watering inside their own home.

Anyone with an allergy to any of the ingredients would have had to have given up their home aswell.

Hold on, wasn't his their factory in the boonies and then urban sprawl had people moving in to his buffer zone?

This is a stupid as someone moving next to an AFB or an airport and then campaign to get the base or airport shut down. These kinds of people are scumbags.

Here in Sacramento one of the city council members moved into a house that was on the Sacramento river and then complained about Sacramento's commercial airport which has been there forever. He actually wanted the county to buy his house from him at a highly inflated price. What a scumbag and only one guess which party he belonged to?
