Almost December and still wearing shorts....(In CA, we are so screwed)

in Northern California, Nevada City to be exact. 3,000 foot elevation. Right now it should be in the 40's and it might have snowed at least once here...... Yesterday I stayed in my shorts and sandals all day while out savoring all the holidays traditions of the area.....

No rain here hardly, no snow to speak of in higher elevations, (the Ski resorts took a HUGE bath over the holiday)and temps are not very cold at night.

I am still getting tomatoes.

Temps in the high 60's, full sun and not very cold at night, high 30's.

Sacramento has been reaching 70 in some locations.....

Now it turns out we are going to have a dry winter according to this article: http://www.sacbee.com/2013/11/29/5956742/dry-winter-ahead-states-experimental.html

I am gonna go to Folsom on Wednesday and see what the water level is like there.....

After last year that will be two abnormally dry years in a row and might decimate some recreational businesses. Ski resorts, rafting companies, travel in general.

One good this is we did not have SOCAL Fires this year, we just passed that season, but next year, if it stays dry, will be a tinderbox much earlier than October and the Santa Ana winds......

http://classic.wunderground.com/US/CA/017.html#SPE

Statement as of 5:28 AM PST on November 30, 2013

A cold low pressure system originating from western Canada may
impact northern California next week. Confidence is increasing in
the details with the potential for light snow showers and snow
levels dropping down to around 2500 feet. Expect overnight lows to
drop significantly behind the system with the potential of a
widespread valley freeze.

Impacts:
* first... slippery mountain passes... possible light snow
accumulations into upper foothills.
* Next... cold temperatures may kill sensitive vegetation, and harm
pets/livestock.

Forecast confidence:
* medium for snow showers.
* Medium for freezing overnight temperatures.

Timing and strength
* tuesday: increasing chance of showers, especially in the
mountains. Snow levels dropping to 2500 feet. Multiple inches
of snow accumulation above 5500 ft with lighter accumulations
below.
* Wednesday and Thursday nights: valley lows 22 to 32. Mountain
lows 5 to 22.

Sat Nov 30, 2013, 03:27 PM
Nov 2013

****Chance of Snow in Foothills Early Next Week****
***Deep Freeze Temps Late in the Week***

After another mild day today and Sunday before a very cold system will impact our weather next week.

High clouds today and mild. A bit warmer tomorrow with highs 7-10 degrees above average. Mostly clear Monday with increasing clouds late in the day. Late Monday a deep and very cold low pressure area will drop into N CA. This system has very little moisture associated with it and precip amounts will be light. A chance of light showers will develop overnight Monday with showers likely Tuesday. Snow levels will drop during the day and could drop as low as 2500 overnight Tuesday. Clearing out Wednesday. Snow amounts will be very light in the foothills with minimal impact. Snow in the Sierra will be light with high ratios. Expecting 3-6 inches at Lake levels and 6-10 inches up top. ***Very cold weather will fill in behind the system bringing a deep freeze to all foothill locations overnight Wed. and Thurs.

The ski resorts have got to be crapping their pants right now. Two more weeks and seriously in danger of losing the whole season..... Gonna have to start laying off people left and right.......

Sat Nov 30, 2013, 09:46 PM
Nov 2013

We've had three to four inches of snow for a week here. It isn't getting warm enough to melt any of it. Kind of early as winters are generally mild in MI until Jan, unless you're right near Lake Michigan in which case you get lots of lake effect snow.

I am fifty or so miles from the shore, but I fear that this winter is going to be a bitch. We've had two very mild ones in a row. Yes, it gets cold, but I just rebuilt my old oil furnace the last couple of years. All I need is the driveway to be plowed so the fuel truck can keep the fuel oil tank from getting empty. I have enough to get me into January. But this early cold isn't going to help.

You Californians send some of that warmth up here, you hear?

I will wait patiently. And thanks.

(We'll probably get a fucking Alberta Clipper, instead. Horrible things; Storm out of the Canadian Rockies dump a ton of snow then drop temperatures below zero F for days to add insult to the injury.)

Enjoy the warmth, Californians.

Aside from that, I heard it's supposed to cool down to the mid to upper 40s (during the day) next week in coastal Humboldt, with a chance for some showers. I actually moved up here in August from Oakland with the expectation of more rain, but so far it hasn't rained that often yet. It should pick up as we approach the end of December.
