The Gabor sisters are three famous Hungarian-American actresses/socialites, Magda (11 June 1915 6 June 1997), Zsa Zsa (born 6 February 1917), and Eva (11 February 1919 4 July 1995).
They were born in Budapest, Hungary to Vilmos and Jolie Gabor. The family moved to New York in the wake of World War II. Magda had played a small role in a Hungarian film before the war, so Jolie and her three daughters decided to move to Hollywood to break into the movie business.
Their claim to fame, perhaps beyond their acting careers, is that of serial matrimony: They are known for their numerous marriages. Magda was married six, Zsa Zsa eight (or nine; one marriage was illegal and annulled), and Eva five times. British actor George Sanders was married first to Zsa Zsa and later to Magda.

Zsa Zsa is still alive and kicking at 96 God Bless longevity

(62,444 posts)Pardon me, but for the last several years, I have been running a business, putting a couple of kids through college, and doing things with my spare time that do not involve watching celebrity news. I too have no idea what these Kardashian people are about, or what their contribution to society has been.
I can assure you there have been more important things going on about which you are likely utterly clueless, but if you have nothing but an insult to offer in response to a sincere question, then I would venture that the value of these Kardashian people to society may well exceed yours.

(3,922 posts)I'm teaching some undergrad classes. And I hardly ever have time to watch TV. And even I know who the Kardashians are. They're all over the place.
That was my point.

(62,444 posts)And as a TA, when a student asks a question, you respond with "Are you stupid? I know the answer," and send them on their way?
And, so what? I probably kept up more with pop culture when I was in grad school than I do now, but how does this explain your behavior?
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)I totally asked the OP "are you stupid?"
Reading comprehension is a skill everyone needs.
2banon
(7,321 posts)and why the are they in the news all the damn time? I wouldn't say I was living under a rock. In fact I'm reading "News" on a daily basis on line, and not a day goes by where somewhere off to the side a Kardashian piece/clip is there waiting for my cursor to click on it by accident. Every click = $$$ so I try and avoid that as much as possible. But after years of this crap, it would be great if someone in the know, can explain why they warrant this level of notice, sans personal attacks on the character of the person asking the question.

(7,321 posts)You think no one here knows what the wikipedia is for?
In any event, thankfully there are enough volunteers that provided all the answers I needed to satisfy a passing curiosity without artificially ginning up clicks and tallies for their overblown egos or their bank accounts. Wiki tallies up how many "follow" their bios.
So get yourself a bandaid or maybe a therapist and get the fuck over yourself and your over inflated ego.

(62,325 posts)No one has to live under a rock to understand the question asked in the OP.
I have never seen whatever show made this woman so infamous yet, like the OP I can't escape her no matter how hard I try.
If you have the answer a lot of people would like to know.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)Google and wikipedia can provide these kinds of answers quickly. Why even ask this question on a political message board?
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)As to why someone would ask the question here rather than use google or Wikipedia? Because people like to hear from other human beings, friends, family etc. about topics they find interesting.
Do you google every question you have or do you ever discuss things among friends and family?
what a sad world it would be if no one communicated with each other anymore and just used google where all they get is a cold, clinical response to whatever questions they have.
Vashta Nerada
(3,922 posts)Why the hell would I bug my family and friends with a stupid question?
If I had a friend call me up and ask me who the Kardashians were, I'd laugh and hang up.

(1,593 posts)to a wide variety of questions, I have no problem seeing them posted here on DU simply because the responses from fellow DU'ers are all too often very very LOL funny. No reason for the snotty snark.

(13,849 posts)someone just wants the opinion of people who share their political convictions. Or they feel comfortable chatting on DU. Who cares why they asked here? We're all free to not click on and respond multiple times to a topic we find boring or unnecessary.

(805 posts)He's a serial killer on death row who claims he killed Nicole and Ron. There was a documentary about this guy and he had claimed to kill them, with his brother believing it was entirely possible based on some evidence the prosecution paid little attention to because they were intent on prosecuting OJ. I just saw the documentary today so this topic made me think of it.
If true though, it doesn't fully exonerate OJ - Glen claimed OJ instructed him to go to Nicole's house to steal some diamond earrings worth $20,000 and kill her if necessary. Ron just happened to be there the night he chose to do it.
Could be possible I guess, but probably complete bs. For a psycho like that, why not try to gain some notoriety while on death row?

Number23
(24,544 posts)does absolutely nothing but bolster your point. She seems incredibly dumb and boring but she truly is a beautiful woman and in the past, the denizens of "beauty" would never acknowledge a woman's beauty unless you were able to see bones and cartilage through the lines of her carefully tailored dresses.
I don't give a flying fart about KK and have never suffered through even a minute of her and her grifting family's tv show, but anyone that considers this woman "plus sized" is a rare and special creature indeed.

(20,277 posts)I am fucking sick and tired of 'skinny' women being discounted as real women.

(16,993 posts)I find them to be offensive. They are all self centered, spoiled, snobs. And that's truly the nicest way I can think of to describe them.
The worst problem they have is the discovery of a pimple on Kim's butt, or a broken fingernail from pecking at the glass in the jewelry store ordering the clerk to pull out some outrageously expensive bauble for them to inspect.
Truly, wish they'd all go away and take their "problems" with them.

(771 posts)Through social media they (Kardash's) look to produce 2-3 sticky stories that are picked up by web and news portals like Google, Yahoo. People click on them, thus the cycle continues on a day to day basis. The K's then turn the exposure into money via their social media accounts (endorsements, etc.)
They don't have a lot of competition so they dominate the market.

(80,708 posts)The OJ Trial, while based on an actual horrible event that took place in reality, was blown so far into the realm of ridiculous bullshit mediagasm that it's probably not surprising that here, almost 2 decades later, we're still experiencing subsequent ripples and aftershocks like the "fame" of the Kardashians.
That said, some of the best writing and entertainment I've seen has been on the tv in the past few years; breaking bad, mad men, game of thrones.
I think there's good stuff out there, there's just a ton of crap, too.
Warpy
(114,509 posts)There was even some good stuff on the networks, like the first season of "My Name is Earl." However, most of it has been pushed aside by cheap "reality" shows generating ersatz celebrities.
You have to flip over to the Spanish stations to find TV like it used to be in the US, with variety shows, game shows, telenovelas, plays and movies.
So yes, there is some good stuff out there. There is just a whole lot of really, really bad stuff and an astonishing quantity of it is generated by the Kardashian family.
