A train derailed Sunday morning at a station in the Bronx, media outlets are reporting.

CNN, citing the New York Fire Department, said about 100 firefighters are responding to the scene in the Bronx. 2. This worries me.

Some of the cars are submerged in water.

I really hope they can get people out safely, but this worries me.

8. Looks like they may have just avoided the water--people from first car on edge of water.

Many injuries, no fatalities as of yet.

That's the Hudson River, not the Harlem River, as someone up thread reported. I live in the area and am sure it's the Hudson.

9. It's the Harlem---the Hudson line runs on the Harlem's bank. When you go from

the Bronx to Manhattan, you are travelling over the Harlem---to your right is the Hudson. The Deegan goes on the Harlem, too. (Damn 87!)

10. It's at Spuyten Duyvil, the place where the Hudson and Harlem rivers meet.

11. Yes--The Hudson line runs on the Harlem River's bank at that point. Take the Circle Line...

you learn things.

12. Yep. When I used to sail my boat down the Hudson to go to Mets games...

...Spuyten Duyvil was the the shortcut I'd take (and then down the Harlem to the East River) to avoid the heavy marine traffic around lower Manhattan.

14. About 30 injured, unconfirmed 2 dead, a trash train derailed earlier this

year there at the steep curve. Engine for this train in the back, which might have prevented further damage.

First responders, neighbors, went through the woods to get to the train.

19. A freight train derailed that exact spot in July.

@nycjim:
WABC-TV reports that July freight train derailment occurred at exact same spot on Metro North line.

They need to really check the rail line up and down the tracks in that area.

21. I would still check it just in case.

I would also put in some kid of alarms to wake up the damn conductors before this point.
It must be easy to zone out at times even for the best.

26. Jeez, that's my train line...

I hope it isn't some sort of sabotage, but i think its near/on the spot where a freight train derailed earlier this year. I've never been on a train where the engineer did not go reeeeaaaaallllllyyy slowly through that area as its right where the MetroNorth and Amtrak rail lines connect and its incredibly curvy. I've taken that train every day for many many years.

EDITED TO ADD- officials have just said this is completely unrelated to the July freight derailment.

MetroNorth and Amtrak suspended from the Croton-Harmon station on down.

Thank you, Cooley Hurd for posting. I didn't know about this till I saw this post, and my little sister was going to get on the train early afternoon from Hudson back to NYC to where she goes to school. I just called my dad to make sure he knew (he didn't) and for the two of us to jump into action to go up and get her and take her into the City.

Watching live copter shots on WNBC…it looks like a horrible accident.
