that had no out of pocket limit (scary) and only paid up to $500 a year in testing (blood tests, MRI, X-rays etc) and that's about one set of blood tests. It basically sucked. My Endocrinologist used to say it was like treating someone in Somalia.
This is because in NJ you cannot join a group if use are self employed. You are forced to buy private insurance at about twice what workplace insurance costs.
But thanks to the ACA I have joined the largest group in the country with almost the same plan from the same company except....there is no limit on testing or meds and my out of pocket for the year is only $2000. Add that to a $750 yearly deductible and a $222 per month premium and the absolute worst cast scenario for me comes to $451 a month and after that every penny is covered.
Same doctors & hospitals & pharmacies. It is incredible.
The best part is that BCBS just sent me a long letter telling me that they were now allowed to offer me the crappy deal they used to sell me. Then 2 days later I received my ACA rebate from them. Ha!
