(151,269 posts)And I've seen one. I'm pretty sure Ron Paul's brain fell out of that opening, but I could be wrong...

(226 posts)I'm not advocating for him. This is an analysis piece. I have no intention of supporting him. Please read the entire article.

(10,486 posts)All I see on the NDAA as regards R Paul is that he was ABSENT for the vote.
"Can't prove I voted fer it, can't prove I voted agin it".

(24,957 posts)Yucky as hell, yeah, but Paul would be a horrible POTUS in so many ways. Sometimes you have to look at the big picture when deciding who you want for POTUS and can't focus on a single issue.

(791 posts)I know he voted no on it (like he has on every piece of legislation aimed at helping the middle class), but did he even bother giving a speech in the debate time?

(116,464 posts)"Obama has all but abdicated his role as a protector of civil liberties"
...nonsense. Ron Paul is a racist who wants to repeal the Civil Rights Act and people are trying to champion him as a "protector of civil liberties"?

This is Democratic Underground. We're not big Ron Paul fans here.

(226 posts)This is an analysis. Don't know how you could conclude that I'm a Ron Paul fan considering the piece talks about him eviscerating the social safety net. I'm no Ron Paul fan.

(11,936 posts)Not me and not the ACLU.
The law doesn't change the status quo of the past decade. That status quo should be changed. But pretending that it creates a problem that existed before this law and would exist, with or without this law, is dishonest. Though I don't think a lot of these critics, like the ACLU are being dishonest on purpose, but I do think they are being hysterically overreactive and that has caused them to come away from the whole thing with a misguided idea of what the bill does in terms of detainees.

(226 posts)This article does not ADVOCATE a vote for Ron Paul. It merely comments that he's the one who stands to gain from this. ANALYSIS and ADVOCACY are two vastly different concepts.
