(33,224 posts)It is amazing to me that writers develop such recognizable styles. I'd have known that this was the creator of Oscar, right off the bat.
A-Schwarzenegger
(15,809 posts)I might have stole that straight from the Oscar.

(15,809 posts)I think a kind of beauty is what I was aiming at.
The first two friends who read it, one said it was
the most Christian story he's read (as in Christian
"action," he said) and the other saw it as completely evil
and frightening. I'll take "beautiful" any day.

(4,460 posts)of a client who was homeless who asked if I was a Christian. I said I was. The client replied, "Not really. If you were Christian you would take me to your home. Since then, I've never forgotten how hard it is to be truly Christina.
A-Schwarzenegger
(15,809 posts)It's not that easy being Christina either!

(43,256 posts)through your dialog, and the very same consciousness that the woman's p.o.v. showed...an unspoken knowledge that women and children have of their status (great dialog, that part!) or a kind of self apart from (sometimes outside) the world of men that claims "men have names," the phrase which I was sure the story problem turns on in the Western ego sense of things.
Anyway, not to be all psychodrama about it...your flow was so watery smooth, the dialog was subtle fun, and moving everyone's -- the reader's and all the characters' -- growing awareness such that when the switch happened, I was delighted. The final line was what it was all about. I'm sure that the magazine's audience is one that will very much appreciate your story.
Your story made me wish for such people in the world.

(15,809 posts)Warms my heart. I'm glad you got it & enjoyed it. That title was a long time in coming, but when the ex-husband said it, I knew that was it.
