(5,909 posts)I got lucky as Mom wanted to go back to work when I started junior high...the only really bad thing regarding (gasp) sex was when my bf at the time was at my house at 3 am and we were on the couch and Dad came down at that time to go fishing as it was opening day.
We just hid under the afghan but I got a lecture like "I don't ever want to see that again"...yet we weren't doing anything at that point, just hanging and talking.

We had He-Man playsets hanging off our handlebars (Castle Greyskull on his and Snake Mountain on mine). We rode by the storm drain, and there were a STACK of Playboy and Penthouse mags. Just sitting there. Glimmering in the sun. We stashed those into the playsets and brought them home. Of course, we were just reading those informative articles.

(28,784 posts)and got together with other mothers (occasionally fathers) and their kids...
we were all surprised to learn that nearly ever single toddler masturbated, and they figured this out all by themselves, obviously, because no one was modeling the same (and the ways they masturbated were obviously kid-created.. sand, stuffed animals, etc.) and none of the kids were abused and none of them were watching porn, unless Sesame Street had some furry thing going on that's only evident to kids...
but that reality - that kids, even before hormones decide it's time to act upon whatever, pleasure themselves through their sexual organs sort of made me think that the real problem comes from society, not kids or teenagers, in regard to this issue. not that I didn't think that before, as far as religious propaganda goes, but both girls and boys, outside of cultural exposure to images, etc. masturbate.
I feel sorry for kids who are raised in right wing religious households. A lot of unlearning has to go on to even perceive sexuality without some sort of weirdness whispering in their ears, maybe.

(3,911 posts)...and immediately got a look that said "hey! has this thing been here this whole time, and you never said anything?!?"
yeah, in every case, it was the kid who magically found something to occupy some time...
with that play group, I remember this so well because one little girl was using sand, etc. and her mom redirected her to something else, and then everyone else had stories to share about their kid doing this or that and the parent discovered her/him inflagrante delicto, so to speak.
Most parents just didn't say anything, that I remember, unless the kid was around others.
All those kids are now grown and doing well. I guess the succeeded in spite of their willful desire to masturbate! lol.
But they weren't on the porn highway back then. It was strictly big wheels and trikes on the sidewalks.

You've directed plenty of snark my way rather than engaging in discussion on the topic. That bothers me. If you have an issue with something I write, have enough integrity to address it to me directly. As for that post Warren linked to, I already explained to him it was in response to a thread where the OP created a poll insisting people who didn't like rape porn hated sex. That is exactly what my thread deals with. Additionally, since a certain other non-historical group chooses to use their safe haven to gossip about members they have banned and insult them by calling them "w...es," "vile" and every other foul word, their outrage amounts to hypocritical posturing. You want to join their efforts against feminism (a feminism that doesn't first seek permission from men before voicing concerns), by all means do so. Just don't expect me to see it for anything but what it is.
arely staircase
(12,482 posts)Surely we can agree that anyone who calls a woman a dog who likes to be pat on the head because of her politicsl views is vile and sexist, no?
BainsBane
(53,029 posts)but I got your message loud and clear.
We just need to accept that men should be free to refer to women as c..t, w...e, s...t, and b...h without being called sexist, but if someone criticizes another poster as a sycophant, it is she who is responsible for sexism and not the misogynists.
So you hate HOF feminists. Amazingly, I believe I'm a free person able to express my views, even if gets some men upset. I know it's outrageous, but there it is. Now I realize that rape thread several months ago wasn't just a weird one-off thing but instead reflective of your views on women. Clearly I misjudged you. I won't be making that mistake again.
arely staircase
(12,482 posts)The person who infered a woman who disagreed with her was a dog and that he should be banned we can probably find common ground.

Find it yourself. The poll came immediately after the first rape porn thread, and its clear point was if you objected to that, you must not like sex. It's the sex negative stuff that you all spout constantly. Moreover, given the way you and your friends never pay attention to what I actually argue and instead create idiocies out of it, I feel absolutely no obligation to provide proof of anything. At least I read people's posts and know what they argue. You don't even make an effort, as is evidenced by your continual repetition of arguments you want to impose, often dissembling from the point at hand (like your continually nonsense about blowjobs and insisting that I went looking for "egregious" stuff when the subject at hand was rape porn. How is rape porn ever not egregious?). I am not going to waste a minute looking for something you won't read, think about, or remember five minutes later. What I write is clearly irrelevant.

You should think about that yourself. That poll does exist and you yourself regularly make cracks about feminists as prudes in your clubhouse.
Here it is: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024089018\
I'll copy an excerpt from the OP for you to continue to pretend doesn't exist.
Prudish and control freak mentalities toward the sexual practices of others is one the big differences between conservatives and progressives. Personally, I am proud to be part of a movement that is willing to talk realistically about the state of sex in our society, including any problems that do exist.
Firstly, that he thinks rape porn is sex is completely fucked up. Even mistaking porn generally for sex is bizarre.
That OP came immediately after TSS's thread on the British law where I and some others expressed our concerns about rape porn. Naturally he left out the part about rape, but only a willfully dishonest person would pretend that isn't exactly what he was responding to. That he created this poll insinuating those who oppose porn are prudes who don't like sex indicates that he did exactly what you have done throughout these many threads: purposefully distort the argument to pretend it was about porn generally and pretend that an opposition to any kind of porn means an opposition to sex. There is something profoundly disturbing about the inability of some to distinguish porn from sex. It tells me they can't imagine their own sexuality outside of capitalist commerce. (It also suggests they probably aren't actually having sex if they mistake porn is their sex life, but then that is their business). What disturbs me is that the meme about critics of rape porn in particular as prudes is that it reveals complete contempt for women and men who see rape culture as a serious matter and believe rape porn contributes to it. Most importantly, the assertion, that at least two members have made directly, that rape porn depicts sex rather than violence only affirms how fucked up the entire genre is. When men start to mistake rape--even depictions of rape--for sex, they become dangerous.
If you once applied to yourself and the people you like the demands you place on me, that would be a marvel. Tell me where a HOF woman ever said she didn't like sex, was a prude, or sex negative? No one, yet you engage in that belittling of women, many of whom are rape survivors, with your pals. I could go to the men's room right now and find a whole slew of jokes about feminists as prudes and sex negative. You yourself engage in that belittling which is designed to make clear that you see our views as trivial, so much so that you can't be bothered to consider what we actually say. I see that as clear demonstration that you see me as less than equal, as does your offensive determination to hold me accountable for an insult from another member, while showing not the slightest concern about the daily insults (authoritarian, right-wing, fascist, feminazi, crazy, obsessed, maoist, troll, stupid, etc.) directed at me. Nor, when the host of that group called a woman a "wh....e" and the insult was again repeated by another member, did you utter a word of concern. I am sick to death of the rank hypocrisy.
As for the notion that my ideas are even remotely right-wing, such a world view is itself so wedded to capitalist commodity fetishism and male entitlement that it can't conceive of the broader political spectrum outside the US. Here I state my view, which is obviously Marxist, on the capitalist worldview that many members here so uncritically internalize.

People are of course free to espouse any ideas they want, but when they pretend there is anything "left" about it, they reveal a narrowly provincial conception of political ideology.

(53,029 posts)That OP and poll is how that particular member chose to trivialize the discussion about rape porn he had actively participated in the night before. I discussed the matter with him until late in the night and when I woke up he had written that OP, clearly to ridicule anyone who dared criticize the precious rape porn. I have told you that repeatedly. In refusing to consider the context in which that thread occurred, you are misrepresenting the facts. He did what you do with great frequency: ignore what someone actually argues and turn it into a joke for ridicule.

(53,029 posts)Firstly, your post was four days after the thread in question and three days after the OP you have gone to the mat to defend.
You criticize me, not rape porn. You have systematically attacked everyone who dared question the precious rape porn, trivialized and distorted arguments as in your fucked up meme about blow jobs.
By the way, rape can be oral as well. I don't know how that's such a revelation to you.
You aren't even making a half-assed effort. That last effort is just lame.

(53,029 posts)like guilt by association and strawman. Did you see quotation marks? If I were claiming you called it precious I would have used quotation marks. Guess what? I don't need your approval for the words I use. That you think I am obligated to use only verbatim quotes while you can distort and trivialize arguments is rich.
I don't give a fuck about that study. That's your derailment. I'm sure that's in the Christmas book too. I don't even know what you think I'm accusing you of now. Your blowjob meme was part of the ongoing effort to divert conversation away from rape porn, subjects of the OPs, to some trivialized parody that is unrelated to the subject. I don't give a fuck if you saw it somewhere on DU. It didn't relate to the issue at hand and was part of your on going effort to ridicule real concerns about rape porn.
Do try to pay attention to time stamps. Mucking them up makes you look foolish.
I will not now nor ever seek your permission for the language I use or posts I make. Get used to it. If you can't, don't read what I write. It's just that simple.

however, in the context of "the DU" - it's likely someone was trying to get the OP shut out of this forum - especially considering past actions that did the same to various people.

Some of the experiences weren't were't pleasant. Like being recruited by pimps as a young runaway--no it wasn't enticing and I got the fuck out of there, or the attempted rapes.
Or to be more vanilla, the lousy sex from men who apparently learned about sex from magazines and movies without learning to ask their partners what felt good for them.
Or really drunk sex, ugh. I sure everyone can agree drunk sex well, sucks.
