Arkansas Democrat Mark Pryor says the Bible, not partisanship, should guide politicsBy Travis Gettys - RawStory

<snip>
A conservative Democrat whos facing a tough re-election challenge has released an ad touting his faith in the Bible.
Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) is considered one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the country, in part due to his support of the Affordable Care Act and also because hes a Democrat in the Deep South.
He released the 30-second TV ad Wednesday to help shore up support among his Christian constituents in the Bible Belt, telling voters that his faith guides him.
Im not ashamed to say that I believe in God, and I believe in His word, Pryor says in the ad, looking directly at the camera. The Bible teaches us no one has all the answers, only God does, and neither political party is always right.

Personally, I would take Pryor rather than have what we here consider a strong Democrat (Ted Kennedy - Elizabeth Warren) run in Arkansas and get trounced.

IOW... the situation we are in currently... is NOT solely the fault of the Republicans.

It's sad, though, that even the supposedly Democratic politicians have to adopt the same bullshit narrative as the born-agains just to be taken halfway seriously.

Heck, they won't even let Bill Halter run against Mike Ross in the Democratic gubernatorial primary. And Mark Pryor's dad was both a governor and US Senator (and did a good job in both offices) and is respected in the state.

This rightward drift, and excuses for it has been devastating to us... time for a CHANGE.

(64,934 posts)If the "Democrat" exposes themselves, then they will probably be arrested. Kidding aside, if a Democrat exposes themself as a progressive, they will definitely lose in Arkansas. Unfortunately, the three G's still rule strong in the confederate states.
my point stands though.

(36,974 posts)GOP Senate Candidate Scolds Republican Group for Offensive Attack on his Dem Opponent
Democratic Senator Mark Pryor put out a campaign ad today touting his Christian values and calling the Bible the North Star that guides his life. But Pryor actually got some pushback for the religious ad from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, but the attack backfired when Pryors Republican opponent Tom Cotton actually stood up for him against the GOP group.
Pryors ad looks a lot like something you might see from a Republican candidate, but the NRSCs Brad Dayspring called out Pryor for touting the Bible as a moral compass when, just last year, he said, the Bible is really not a rule book for political issues. Dayspring thought this showed Pryor to be a hypocrite.
So is the Bible Mark Pryors compass, providing the comfort and guidance to do whats best for Arkansas? Or is it really not a good rule book for political issues and decisions made in the Senate? Guess it depends on which Mark Pryor that you ask.
And then, somewhat surprisingly, Cottons campaign actually stood up and condemned the attack on their opponent.

Fortunately, NM doesn't seem to give a shit.

(27,247 posts)I don't recall Bill Clinton or David Pryor or Dale Bumpers or J. William Fulbright ever having to make those kinds of statements. Maybe it started with "Reverend Huck" getting a free ticket to the governor's mansion thanks to Ken Starr's witch-hunt against Jim Guy Tucker.

(100,220 posts)Think about what Pope Francis said about how religion should be more focused on helping those who are less fortunate instead of focusing more on partisan bickering over social issues then yeah that would be plausible.
But if it's the same stupid bullshit that the church has been feeding us the last 50 years (abortion and gay people bad, abstinence good, etc) then fuck that.
