3" OF SNOW!!!! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!

Really...the media here in Philly has been working this latest "Snowmegeddon" for all it was worth: Live Reports!, Breaking News!, Storm Headed Our Way!, and MORE!!!!!

It's good business for the bread, eggs, and milk companies, since much French Toast will be made in the ensuing days when these folks have four loaves, three dozen eggs, and gallons of milk. People pushing and shoving to get into the cashier's line so's they don't get stuck in the snarling traffic and become part of the tens of thousands of dead in the charnel house that would become the streets near the shopping centers.

...and SHOVELS! (What happened to last year's shovel? Do people throw it out in the spring?) and SALT or HALIDE! for the sidewalks and driveways which will be covered by meters of snow!

...but...not a flake on the major thoroughfares and while the side streets are slippery, I doubt if this is going to be the next Pompeii here.

It took me 2 hours to drive 11 miles to day.

Honesty people, if you can't drive in the snow, DON'T.

If you are too afraid to go over 10 miles an hour, or you don't trust your car to make it up and down the hills, or your tires aren't up to the task, stay home, at least until the rush hour traffic clears.

If you're that bad off, there's nothing worth risking your life over and, incidentally, making ME late for work when I could have perfectly well been there with plenty of time to spare if all I had to contend with was the snow covered roads.

I think we got less than 4 inches where I live.

I visited her one year and was greeted by -5 F below, and a lot of snow. I think I nearly got hypothermia because I couldn't smoke in their house and got this eerie feeling of well-being and almost hallucinations (no, it was tobacco, just a Marlboro Light) and then when I came inside, I slept for like 3 hours. It was a combo hit of rapid elevation (was living in New Orleans which is below sea level), it was so much colder and drier than I was used to, and just a weird experience.

I've since been to places where it gets far colder, but I've never had a weird experience like I did in OK, feeling like I was freezing my behind off. I swear the rattling in my boots wasn't a rock, it was my toes. Horrifyingly cold.

It is definitely drier here, which is preventing a build-up of ice. I was surprised how much the snow stayed like snow after a few days as opposed to turning into ice. Last night was supposed to be the last of this mess for awhile. Still, it makes for going up and down hills a real treat.

I love the snow and am generally please it has hung around--given the cold, but some of our wind chills...WHOAH!

We sort of earned our Siberian express designation... Which, will soon be BROKENPIPEgeddon.

My old neighbor is panicking as they live next door (and share a wall) with a vacant patio home in foreclosure and for which there has been no electricity or gas on since the former tenant moved out and the asshole former owner threw up his hands.. Given the foreclosure sale has been delayed twice, there is absolutely nothing that can be done... The owner would be the only one with legal access and he is long gone. So it is likely that there is a pipe about to burst or will have before the foreclosure sale may well impact the neighbor's basement or elsewhere. Something I don't think many have considered, but may well be damage for which neighbors are "stuck"

It's common in this area.

The big deal was the record lows and all the broken pipes. Mine among them. A plumber will be out to LOOK at them tomorrow, and then let me know if I can afford to repair them or just do without water until I can.

In this area of normally cold winters, there was a 2-day waiting list just to get a call back, and every plumber is working overtime.
