General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsYOU KNOW, I MIGHT BE COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT BOYCOTTING KOCH PRODUCTS. tough issue...
It isn't the first time I have been wrong, or could be wrong, and it wont be the last...I have found out that there are many unions involved in making Koch products, I didn't think of that before..
knee jerk reaction...
NOW I FOUND OUT....
Unions represents a lot of workers at GP facilities .Union workers get decent wages...benefits..etc.
The Kochs are doing what they can to break the union, but they are standing strong. A boycott, and resulting loss of business and jobs, would be perfect for the Kochs to force horrible terms onto the workers, then force them out on strike, and be able to weather a strike that kills the union off.
Then they get to be non-union, and it scares anyone else off from unionizing. ..............

IN THE END.....HERE IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN........
In the end we have a non union situation where we had unions before, or worse, foreign competition....
I got no answer, all I know is life isn't simple..

OK,..as I move along, I need to learn more. what else is new?..
don't we all need to learn some more, and listen more? ..hell I am not alone on this...I think....

(6,539 posts)I don't think it's going to get any easier. However, the Koch brothers already "got theirs." So, you are probably right that a boycott is not necessary.

(38,414 posts)How much would it really hurt the Koch Bros. since they already have net worth together over 40 Billion. (or more??)
I know that it would not hurt their stock, it is a private corporation, no public stock or price available. It would indeed hurt the
workers, their benefits, and their families.

(38,414 posts)As much as I hate the Koch Bros, and I hate them deep down,
.... I do not want anyone to lose a decent paying union job. That is what these assholes want more than anything. Lower pay, reduce benefits..non union...so I kick this mistake back up there for people to see, and I will add this to the other post..shit.

(38,414 posts)I know some of them are in the South, that is all.
Others may give more info, but I do know there are some.
And a number of posters here and elsewhere assure me that Koch Industries would like to get rid of the union.

(10,942 posts)A person from the Georgia operation of Georgia-Pacific that was a DU member and union member begged me and others not to boycott. I apologize to that person and other union members that have fought the Kochs to gain decent wages. I can only hope that others at DU and most americans saw clearer than I did on this issue. I will end my boycott against Koch company products that are made by union workers. That means that I buy Georgia-Pacific products that meet the requirement that I set. While I would love to hurt the Koch brothers economically, I don't see the logic of hurting good, strong american workers to get at those bastards. The Kochs are massively rich and will stay that way regardless of the decisions that I make. Union people that work for the Kochs are not rich and have to work for a paycheck that the Kochs may find a way to deny them if I continue my boycott. I will use other methods to do my tiny part to fight the two evil Koch brothers.

(55,981 posts)The loss by Koch products will be a gain by non-Koch products. If they are greener more union friendly then I suggest a boycott. The jobs lost at one manufacture should be made up at another.

(67,190 posts)One of the neighbor ladies who my wife and I like a lot had to get a job at Walmart to make ends meet. I may be working there before long myself. She would have much preferred getting a job at one of the well paying union factories we used to have around here but those are gone now.
How can I say to someone don't shop at Walmart?
See how the wealthy can get us over the barrel?

(19,339 posts)won't cross. For me, I will not boycott a union-made product unless the union asks me to.

(70,674 posts)business to the point that their union employees will be affected. And if the KOCHheads got their political way, they themselves would get rid of their unions. So, for my part, to Hades with the KOCHholes!1

I don't like to admit that, but it is true for me.
