(5,005 posts)come from ticket sales and product endorsements. No one forces anyone to give them money - it's all voluntary.
I refuse to spend $250 to take my wife and kids to a Red Sox game, with the $8 cups of warm beer and $6 hot dogs. Fuck that. I wouldn't even pay $25 for a ticket.
But enough fans seem to feel that it's worth the money, so why should you or I care what their salaries are?
Corporate executives, on the other hand, are being compensated with money that rightfully belongs to shareholders and employees, the people who keep the enterprise funded and running. They pack the board with their buddies, and they themselves sit on the boards of other companies who also lavishly reward their executive staff, and that's wrong.
But athletes, actors and others? I could care less how much money they make, as long as they're not forcing me to participate against my will.
I'm not the one who said those things in an embarrassing attempt to justify the obscene "bonuses" the Wall Street Bankers paid themselves AFTER the bailout,
and the lack of any Governmental effort to rein in the abuses.
A very famous someone else said them.

(16,113 posts)That money comes from advertisers, and that money comes from companies that sell things like toothpaste, potato chips, cereal, and cars. All of those companies have an advertising budget that they get from the sale of their products, so yes, it's not as direct, but they in some ways ARE getting their hands on your money even if you don't volunteer it.

(33,654 posts)When the Nationwide Insurance and Columbus Dispatch powers that be here in Columbus built a hockey stadium for the Blue Jackets, they negotiated a tax break for themselves. Former Rep Killroy (d) who was on the Columbus school board them, chased them and shamed them into paying a portion of their 'forgotten' school taxes. It doesn't seem to work that way.

(3,220 posts)If he didn't say it, it shouldn't be in quotes or attributed to him. This looks like another quote that's an interpretation of events rather than something that was said.

(3,220 posts)Secondly, I didn't say that he absolutely didn't say it. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that he did, though, so one could logically assume that this is another image with a fake quote. There's a ton of them on the internet.

(7,658 posts)I can find the offbeat, and the twitter posts; but that's it. No major media have this quote.
I think that this is not an actual quote, but someone's interpretation of what they think should have been said.

I believe in getting to the root of the matter. That means in America, as it did in Iceland, the crooked bankers go to jail and the politicians should be told to work for the people. That will require campaign finance reform and, for those who still won't listen (hey, Senator McConnell, are you listening?) denial of re-election. It's up to us to show the world we want politicians who do the people's business rather than those who are simply corporate whores.

(50,983 posts)We are not. If we believe it to be so, we are just kidding ourselves. We started kidding ourselves in a big way when we believed, "They are fighting for our freedom(s)." and other stupid slogans.
People, break out of the mire of stupid.
