(12,051 posts)I wondered what was gonna happen to Brodie -- got my suspicions confirmed. A bad way to go.

(63,645 posts)As I was watching it in disbelief I said to my wife, "There is no plausible way that they can get out of this." In the back of my mind I thought that they were going to pull some hollywood plot twist and save Brody, but I did not believe they could possibly do it in a plausible way. Send in the marines and save him at the last moment? I was torn between hoping Brody would get saved, and hoping the series would not let me down with some sort of ridiculous, contrived plot twist.
I am sorry to see Brody go, and I don't know how the show can continue without him. But I respect the fact that they actually went through with it. I'm reminded of that quote from George R. R. Martin:
I've been killing characters my entire career, maybe I'm just a bloody minded bastard, I don't know, when my characters are in danger, I want you to be afraid to turn the page (and to do that) you need to show right from the beginning that you're playing for keeps.

(53,012 posts)There will be new terrorist threats in Istanbul, possibly new moles in the CIA. Carrie can finally have the romance with Quinn everyone has been rooting for. I think Brody had to go actually.

(46,436 posts)I love Damien Lewis as an actor, but what more could they do with Brody? He would never be fully assimilated back into the US with his past, and there's only so much he could do abroad. And Quinn obviously is in love with Carrie so that opens up all kinds of little subplots. I'm fine with this shift in direction.
BainsBane
(53,012 posts)In addition to being dreamy, he has never killed a Vice President of the US. That's one I would have a hard time getting past. I'm amazed at how that one never came back to bite Brody or Carrie. Quinn is also more steady emotionally, which Carrie needs.

(53,012 posts)I suppose it's interesting in that it introduces the sort of dilemmas women in the intelligence field actual face, but now that Brody is gone the baby is a side line. So what are they going to do with the story? The father takes the baby, Carrie goes to Istanbul and then worries about the child? I wish they hadn't made her get pregnant.

No reason to watch this unrealistic show now that the best actors have been banished

(11,649 posts)they might introduce new interesting characters.

(11,649 posts)for good shows. there aren't many left. so many great ones were cancelled, i.e., "without a trace", "harry's law", CSI-NY, etc.
tv seems to have been taken over by stupid reality shows. i don't give a damn about the Kardashians, the Bachelor, etc.
i haven't been watcing "Masters of Sex" but i kept SHowtime on last night and it looks like it's good. they were talking about ECT for a woman's husband who liked men. i'll wait for the re-runs and watch from the beginning.
BainsBane
(53,012 posts)I don't find it nearly as compelling as Homeland, Game of Thrones, or the Borgias, which has been cancelled. It's sort of odd in that Masters appears very uptight and doesn't exactly devote much attention to his sex life with his wife.
DesertFlower
(11,649 posts)i'm also looking forward to the return of "the americans" on FX in feburary.
one of the best series i ever saw was HBO's "six feet under".

(1,401 posts)Lewis signed a 7 year contract this year which doesn't mean he can't be killed of earlier, he will still get paid, but does leave the door open.
His hanging looked a little suspicious and the timing was strange. To schedule it just before the call to prayer that would require everyone to leave left room for doubt. Seems it would usually have been scheduled to allow for maximum crowd frenzy.
I also think Brody could make the transition if he came back and went to work for Saul as black ops. I think that is what they intimated Saul would be doing in NY. He could support Claire and be in the background with little public exposure. They could maintain the lake house as their base.
I think that Claire will take the baby to Istanbul. Plenty of support there with nannies and protection. That kind of stability would definitely allow the writers to grow her character.
Yes, I am a dreamer.
BainsBane
(53,012 posts)That would be too fake and ultra Hollywood if they brought him back, sort of like the dream that Bobby was dead on Dallas. I hope you're wrong.
Perhaps Showtime will develop another show for him?
searchingforlight
(1,401 posts)Lewis did say that the writers were having a hard time with the complexities of his character and that they have wanted to kill him since the first season to make the story sharper.
Kurt Sutter sure has no problem killing people off and the story goes on. One of the posters mentioned George Martin and I know that with each death in his books I was shocked but it didn't keep me from enjoying the story.
