Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Ma.) is raising money to oust Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and balance the Senates gender disparity. Warren, a star among the partys liberal base, called on supporters to give money to Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes in an e-mail shared among potential supporters Saturday. The e-mail was also circulated earlier in the week. Right now, the polls in Kentucky are tied and you can bet that Mitch McConnell and his powerful friends will spend whatever it takes to beat Alison and win control of the Senate, Warren wrote.
Warrens assistance in Kentucky helps make up for the absence of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who signaled Friday who would not raise money for McConnells opponent. "I don't think she needs much of my help. She seems to be doing pretty well, he told Bloomberg Television. Relations between Reid and McConnell have been at a low point since November when the Democratic leader used a controversial tactic known as the nuclear option to strip Republicans of the power to filibuster nominees. The left-leaning website Daily Kos reported on Warrens fundraising e-mail earlier in the week.
Warren is also raising funds for Michelle Nunn, the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Ga.), who is running for Senate in Georgia, and West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant, a Senate candidate in that state. The Republicans running against Michelle are all fighting with one another to decide which will be the most ultra-right wing extremist in the Senate, Warren wrote. We already have plenty of Senators carrying the flag for the Tea Party, we don't need another one.

(45,251 posts)I don't care which gender they are.
The offspring of two old school white, Southern Democratic bigwigs, always the worst elements of the Democratic Party.

I don't believe in visiting the sins of the father on the offspring, but the next generation also seem to be conservatives.
Voting for them if you're in their state is one thing.
However, if out of state liberals use limited resources on these two, they deserve a Congress full of conservadems, IMO.
To be fair, their academic credentials are great, but then, again, they are both daughters of privilege.
Anyway, I pass.

(4,234 posts)IMO, Saxby Chambliss and Sonny Perdue would not have been elected in 2002 if the vote had not been counted by Diebold completely without paper, that is, without any way to verify or accurately recount the vote. There were also a lot of Diebold patches to the computer program during the counting (See the stuff about Bev Harris's discoveries about all this). Barnes had an 11-point advantage on Perdue about 4 days before the election and ended up losing by 11 % points, a 15-point flip. Chambliss was also down about 5 in the same pre-election polling and ended up losing by 2 or 3 I think.

Reid won't campaign against McConnell because McConnell did not campaign against Reid. It is a weird historical game that the minority and majority leaders don't campaign against each other. It is one of those weird respect thing that started decades ago so so I have heard. Is it right? No. But if McConnell had campaigned against Reid in Nevada, he may have lost (MAYBE).

(16,508 posts)For a majority leader to campaign against the minority leader has generally been considered bad form, and Bill Frist's active campaign to unseat Tom Daschle was widely condemned.

..."The air is so thick with partisanship that Sen. Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.), a former majority leader and the Senate's longest-serving member, said April 28 on the Senate floor: "It used to be unheard of for Senate leaders to seek an active role against each other in campaigns. That time has apparently gone. Has honor gone too? Who cares about honor when a Senate seat might be gained?"....

(24,956 posts)It's the responsibility of the head of the DSCC to handle the GE not the majority leader
Majority Leaders, to my knowledge, have never campaigned against Minority Leaders and vice-verse.
So unless you consider one of the nastiest majority leaders Lyndon Baines Johnson to be a wimp, you're just gonna have to accept being angry about it or keep screaming about how everyone who doesn't see it your way is a wimp.
Run for Senate. Try getting elected majority or minority leader on that platform, you and your single vote will feel nice and cozy in the seventh seat to the left of the Committee Chairman
