GLASGOW and Edinburgh airports, in an independent Scotland, could be bombed by an English government if it was threatened by an unfriendly country, a former deputy leader of the UK Conservative Party has warned.
Lord Fraser of Carmyllie also warned that SNP policies removing nuclear forces from Scottish bases and reducing Scotland's navy "essentially" to fishery protection vessels could make Scotland a war zone. He said a country with a few fishery protection vessels was "asking to be invaded".
The former Lord Advocate and Solicitor General said he did not see who might have "evil intentions" against England but he had missed "the import of the Balkan crisis and the ramifications of 9/11" and would hesitate "to predict the crises even in the rest of the century".
He foresaw the possibility of an enemy commander ordering the runways at Scottish airports to be cleared because his planes would be landing and "if that were to happen what alternative would England have but to come and bomb the hell out of Glasgow airport and Edinburgh airport".

(1,684 posts)Where to make up a similar scenario? Where it was Gatwick and Heathrow would get bombed the hell out just in case, a enemy would use it to you know land their planes on. I mean what choice would Scotland have?

And their recent and relevant history of bombing Scottish airfields...?

(1,684 posts)I take malaise meaning as: Belief that England is always the centre of attention.
Any discussion in the media to do with Scottish statehood weirdly needs to involve and include England. In reality its not about England why should it be. England is not nor should be the centre of the Scottish universe then it comes to discussing Scotland's future.

(5,762 posts)I'll hear no more of this poppycock. Those wretched Scots would still be shagging sheep if we English hadn't civilized them, what hey?
Disclaimer: this Irish child was diapered with IRA leaflets.

(10,818 posts)If England were threatened by another country, it would depend on what Scotland decided - to throw its lot behind England, the invader, or remain neutral - just as in any other war that involves multiple countries.
What next, re-build Hadrians' Wall?
If England were at war with another country and Scotland declared to be neutral, I would presume that England would not be bombing anything in Scotland, and Scotland would be impounding any weapon of war entering its territory - including English stuff. At least, that's the normal rules of war - your planes and ships get impounded but you may be able to get back to your country of origin.

(1,684 posts)To Scots its going to be one in a long line of silly scare stories straight from Westminster's own House of the undead.
On your note thou, I doubt it would make any sense to allow, any force that would also be hostile to Scotland a foot hold in England due to our inaction. I don't foresee inaction when it comes to the common defence of the British isles only declining in the misguided adventurism of invading other sovereign states.
