One Fumb Duck: is Phil Robertson's Dynasty Done?

I never paid any attention to the Duck Dynasty stuff, but he's pretty gross, even from afar...to each their own. But if those musings of his are "religious ideas", I just dunno. Rambling on about buttholes and what-not. It's all about as appealing as that hamburger carpet he's got moldering on his chin.

Says the duck-charmer Phil: “It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying?"

He (Phil) says, "that's just me" even after going on to imply that his God is also a pretty strict penis-in-vagina advocate.

And so Kurovski asks, don't hetero folks engage in backdoor visits? Know what I'm saying?

And are his views on race really even in the category of religious belief? Like I say, I think he's forever done as a benignly viewed media character.

You can't walk through any store that markets "stuff" without coming across their faces on everything from lunch boxes to tee shirts. Fleece blankets sporting the Dynasty? They got 'em. Greeting cards. Posters. Cookbooks. Book Bags. Plastic cups. Extra large tea glasses with Si's face emblazoned on them. I haven't looked but I am going to hazard a guess that you can buy every episode of their show on DVD.

Whoever came up with their marketing scheme was pretty smart to cash in since all things like this have their 15 minutes of fame and then it's over. Phil may have hastened the demise but then again, given the size of their following, it may even spur them on for a while longer. Someone needed to clue him in long before that interview that he probably should dummy up when he is asked questions that might be controversial. But it's out there now and I am pretty sure no one is a bit surprised by his answer. One thing that is no secret is that Phil has a pretty checkered past with admissions of a pretty "out there life style". So maybe ol' Phil knows of what he speaks when he starts discussing the various possibilities when it comes to sex.

First there were hints of an interest in politics through an endorsement, followed by the fans' collective "He should run for office!" Suddenly it was True Confession time, from cheating and absolution to a "formerly" suicidal son. Nothing like a reformed sinner to rope the flock in for the shearing. Now that they've planted those ideas, a little homophobia that can plant an idea that can then be brushed aside as eccentricity is just lagniappe.

Generally if the "stars" of a show get married in camouflage it doesn't interest me. Sorry but true - to each their own tastes and preferences. I think there are a lot of people like me - didn't even know their names until they were posted at DU.

But the flip is there are a lot of low brow people who follow the shiny object du jour that DO watch this - and they aren't "aware" people. It won't impact whether or not they watch the show. They don't have the "depth" to understand how this man should be ashamed of himself. So - the show will go on. If not now - then a year or two from now. Isn't that Bounty Hunter guy back on the air?

This is just one lost guy - lets focus on getting to America's youth before he does!

59. Feelings are not something you can legislate
Thu Dec 19, 2013, 10:27 AM
Dec 2013

If people accept the law and don't do anything to harm others in any way, their feelings are not against the law. I never watch Duck Dynasty.....

I liken it to paying taxes. People hate and complain about them, but they pay. It's the ones who avoid paying them in some nefarious way that are the problem.
Stop for red lights, it's the law. Another law broken all the time...so many.

The LGBT have come a long way and have suffered under people who would do them harm. The peaceful complainers may hurt feelings, but they'll come along, give them time.

It's folks like Thomas Roberts, Ellen, Anderson Cooper, Rachel Maddow, the Cheney girl, and so many other gay celebrities who have won respect for the community. The raucous comedy skits on SNL that make gays look like sex-crazed clowns....and SNL is one of my favorite programs...hurt the image of the whole community, funny as they may be, they go over the top...

If I were gay and in a serious relationship, those skits would bother me a lot more than an old guy with expressing his opinion in the only way he knows.

Kurovski

But I think I've seen this cut and paste post elsewhere?

The bible admonitions carry with them the threat of violence. Always. In for a penny, in for a pound.

It calls for death.

No one is calling to legislate feelings. And homophobes do great harm to more than feelings. Children commit suicide in communities where that hateful, expired claptrap is espoused.

I know the difference between a comedy skit and monstrous nonsense barked out by a delusional, quite possibly wackerschnoodle old millionaire.

I think the greatest harm being done here in this century by Phil is the damage he does to religion.

If I were straight and in a serious relationship, those bible snips would bother me a whole lot more than an improve skit. he makes straight religious folks look like sex-crazed clowns.

83. Need to be clearer
Sat Dec 21, 2013, 09:03 PM
Dec 2013

I never cut and pasted anything in the post...why would you think that I did...which part...all are my own thoughts.

So far THIS season, SNL has not had the type of skits that it had early on last year and previous years. Last year, last program, in fact , was one of the best Gay sketches I have ever seen, where Seth was doing the news with Bill Hader. The gay guy, Stefan, who's terrific, runs off hurt telling Seth that he's getting married. Seth looks distraught and runs after him to the church and finds that Stefan's going to marry Anderson Cooper..Seth stops the wedding and he and Stefan run off together.

I loved that episode, and got tears in my eyes. It was funny and spot-on as far giving everyone a gay outlook on things because it wasn't just sex, it was love.

I like the scenes where gays and lesbians are not made fun of because of promiscuity, which must hurt when others make fun. It bothers me, and I'm not gay. They just got their rights and their standing is still a bit precarious for too much horsing around and it just makes the haters get more worked up. It wasn't that long ago that straight people had to be careful about bedroom/nudity scenes in movies and tv, but little by little things changed in spite of X or R ratings.

I know the suicide threat is real and don't know the answer. I wish it would change a little faster for the sake of the young people hurt by the children of the dinosaurs.

I can relate a little. What others say "used" to bother me. Am no longer a practicing Christian because I have read too much and don't believe what I'm supposed to believe. Relatives are still Catholic or Evangelical and insist on wishing me a "blessed christmas." But I understand that they are what they think they know, not what they didn't learn, so I consider the source. Gays have to consider the source and not be so offended by the dinosaurs who are dying off. The younger ones are not like that and that's what they need to remember. It will take time.
