With healthcare covered, I don't think we should have mandatory car insurance

Most of what we pay in car insurance is for health care coverage in the event of an accident.

Now that everyone should have health care, we should at the very least have MUCH LOWER auto insurance costs...right?

I don't know if the ACA changed that. In fact, if you are a Medicare beneficiary and have a car accident and the insurance companies that administer Medicare know it, they'll refuse to pay and tell the providers to go after the auto insurer (there are some situations where Medicare will pay while things are figured out and then settle up if necessary). Works same for job injuries.

I'm probably being more serious/factual than your post and point was meant to be.

A lot of auto accident litigation arises from an injured party's health insurer seeking reimbursement from the driver's auto insurer.

The actual parties are merely proxies for an argument between the insurance companies over who pays.

Moving the auto liability payments from the auto policies to the health policies only means the health policies pay out more. The actual expenses don't go away.

negligence, willful or otherwise. Beyond the injuries or death that can occur as part of an accident claim, there is the whole issue of damage to the vehicle and liability associated with that.

It is a whole other critter.
