(154,021 posts)including the breaking bus crash yesterday at Fallbrock, which MSNBC broke this morning, almost 24 hours late. So if a bus crash is not breaking news if I post it, trust me, this qualifies even less. Suffice it to say, nobody got killed or injured, and the gas bill will be zero.

(106,211 posts)Nadin hasn't even attempted to say it was about a 'suspicious object' in the thread. It's a nothingburger story anyway - "no suspicious materials found; no evacuations". That is just the kind of story that is of no interest at all to anyone who doesn't live near it.
It seems more likely to me that it's about the bus crash - after all, she did at least make an attempt to give the name of where that happened (though she spelled it wrong, and not through a slip of the fingers either - 'o' and 'c' are nowhere near each other on the keyboard. You'd think that a 'local reporter' would be able to get place names right ...)
I wonder if Nadin's account here has been hijacked? This thread seems designed to attract criticism of her.

So we come home for a bomb scare, and the local news (we is, just needed to get gear, but were joined by TV types) breaking all around us. What is funny though, is not the social commentary, call it a hunch, I think it was drugs but that will never be admitted in a nice neighborhood, but actually the bullies at DU. They get their wish, and now they are all going nuts that little to no details were included, poor little bullies, they are on parade!!!
It is hilarious. The joke is on them. If my county burns DU will be the last place I would post the news. So far, I have sat on a couple national stories, and will continue to. They get mostly what they want and continue to attack. They are vicious and they don't even get it.
In the meantime, they make the site continue to suck in major ways. Oh and the Alexa ratings continue to go down. I expect the spike by elections, but the glory days are over. With some admins and owners facilitating this the place is less valuable if he wants to sell. This is what we call self fulfilling prophecies.

Oh well, I guess it beats saying you have more respect for the guy who runs Free Republic than you do Skinner(that was from an earlier FB post).
muriel_volestrangler
(106,211 posts)Not what you'd expect from a reporter. No-one on DU was "going nuts that little to no details were included" - I can't see that the story was posted here at all. Not surprising, since it's a non-story. And yet she (or whoever is controlling the Facebook and DU accounts) claims that we were wanting details of a 'bomb scare'. It just doesn't read like something written by a reporter - confusing English, and no understanding of what an interesting news story is.

though this was also a text book of something amazing. All I stated was we walked into a developing news story. Never said more, and we did. That generates that hate, speaks volumes to be honest.
Why I no longer post beyond inanity here. And even that will generate some lovely cyberstalking from the brigade that the only thing they want is to drive their mark off. It is incredible, now to copy and paste this thread though. It is now officially background for the cyberstalking research.

(106,211 posts)She can post an OP about nothing, and people complain that it's clearly about nothing, and thus not suitable for GD. Then she whines she is being victimised, and some GD hosts believe her, and complain that the nothing thread is locked. Even when her subsequent posts make it clear she did the OP purely to whine about DU, thus directly breaking the SoP for DU, one or two GD hosts stick to their claims that an OP about nothing is not against the GD SoP, and it doesn't matter that she admitted she was trolling later. And proudly points to the trolling on Facebook.
Sweet gig, if you can get it, and that's the kind of attention you crave.

(154,021 posts)Why if my county burns, (as it will as it has) DU can read it on CNN, never mind I will be covering it.

(30,481 posts)I understand that and am not saying it in a mocking way. DU is a big place with many people. When it comes to local stories, have you tried posting them in a state group. Seems that is probably the best place for them. I cannot imagine people have given you a hard time for posting a local story in the state group. It takes a long time, but stick around and you will figure out the personalities and site management. Makes a big difference when it comes to knowing where to post certain topics. At the same time, I don't know why this post about you and your feelings would be allowed to stay, while a post about a local story wouldn't. Try a state forum. I highly doubt they would ever consider deleting it.

MineralMan
(151,269 posts)news is that's being referenced, the original post is devoid of any content. Whatever the story might have been, just posting the story would have been fine. But, the OP did not post the story, or link to it, or even tell us what it was about.
I would not post such an OP. I sometimes post OPs that are about things that are not written about in the news, but I do provide all the information needed for readers to know what I'm talking about. The reason for all of the replies to this thread is simple. It was posted, I believe, as a taunt and as an open-ended complaint about DU. And still, it contained zero information about whatever prompted it to be posted in the first place.
Frankly, I think that if someone else had posted it, it would have been locked right away by the GD Hosts. This one was locked, and then unlocked. It still contains zero information.

(19,339 posts)Smaller news outlets are more prone to missing this lesson, but larger ones stumble as well. Anyone who has read a column by a copy editor who loves his job so, so much knows what I'm saying. Stories behind the stories are rarely interesting, and are usually reserved for things such as, you know, Watergate. A rumor of suspicious materials in a condo just isn't going to cut it. Reporters do best when they keep themselves out of the story, no matter how much attention they think they should get.

Don't ask, even though likely I will be covering that crap. And lord knows I have even gotten some national news as exclusives. No longer worthy for DU.
This, was like the thousands of local stories posted by other DU'ers every year here on the old GD, since it happened outside doors. It's ok if others do it, not if I do it. Triple standards, I love it.
BKH70041
(961 posts)Given the responses from others, I'm going to venture to guess you were doing more than reporting a few local events. I'm going to guess you reported a lot of them, probably some about how Mr. Smith went to visit his Mom and about local brush fires, and expected others to be as interested as you. I live in Asheville, NC so traffic on the 805 or who's banging who in Balboa Park doesn't interest me, or most people for that matter. But I'll be sure to post about the bear sightings here on your threads if it gives you a thrill.

(34,122 posts)are suing each other over breach of contract in a dispute centering on the level
of bird-protection measures in place at the facility.
San Diego Gas and Electric filed a lawsuit Thursday in San Diego Superior Court
against Rim Rock wind farm owner NaturEner asking the court to confirm its allegation
that the company did not meet contractual requirements related to the preservation
of eagles, raptors and other protected bird and bat species.
Unfortunately, the projects owner, NaturEner, did not meet its contractual requirements,
so SDG&E has decided not to make the investment in Rim Rock or to continue purchasing
its renewable energy credits, Jennifer Ramp, a spokeswoman for
San Diego Gas and Electric, said in a statement.
NaturEner USA, based in San Francisco, a subsidiary of Spain-based Grupo NaturEner,
filed its own lawsuit alleging breach of contract Friday in Toole County District Court in Montana.

The state fire marshal says there is no evidence of a working smoke detector in the home.
Although we do not yet know what caused this tragic loss of life, I want to remind everyone that working smoke detectors save lives, said State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers. It is so important that everyone have a functioning smoke alarm in their home and have an escape plan with at least two ways out.
Kettering firefighter Lt. Craig Moore said Forrest Carroll, 76, made it out of the home around 3:50 a.m. and told a neighbor the house was on fire.
When police and firefighters arrived, Moore said Carroll was trying to go back inside the burning home.

nope, Suffice it to say we did walk into a news story. None was hurt, or killed. As far as stories are concerned the only significant thing of this story for us is that it unfolded right outside our door. It is as local as they get.
