Here Are The 15 Democratic Senators Bucking The White House And Threatening War With Iran

As the United States finally puts a decade of war behind it, a group of senators, including 15 Democrats, is defying the White House and threatening to push the country into a fresh war with Iran.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) is leading the charge to pass legislation in January that would impose tougher sanctions on Iran, despite dire warnings from the White House, Iranian leaders, 10 Democratic committee chairs and a host of liberal groups that such an effort could sink a delicate nuclear agreement already in place. Under that Nov. 24 deal, Tehran would curb its nuclear program in exchange for some relief from economic sanctions for a period of six months.

The Senate bill, which has 19 Republican cosponsors, takes a hard line, levying new sanctions on Iran unless the country's leaders agree to abandon all uranium enrichment -- what some have called an "absurd" stance. In the past, both John Kerry, then a U.S. senator, and Mohamed ElBaradei, former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, have said that Iran has the right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said earlier this month that if the Senate moved forward with its bill, the current nuclear deal would be dead. A senior Obama administration official went further, telling The Huffington Post that Senate action makes it "far more likely that we'll be left only with a military option" regarding Iran.

Here are the 15 Democratic senators willing to risk a war with Iran rather than let White House and Iranian leaders continue negotiations.

If your senator is on this list. Please call their office and demand that they stand firm with President Obama and remain united in the face of right wing attacks. Your phone call can make a difference. Now is the time to step up and be heard.

He has let them get by with this crap. He needs to start kicking ass and taking democrat names. They think they are safe because of the state of the 2014 elections. This is a disgrace.

They are assuming their own base is asleep on this issue, and don't care. The base is sick of war and ready for a new approach.

We need to let our senators know we are sick of war and right wing fear mongering.

If they want our support, they need to do the right thing. Tell them you'll donate in April and follow through if they do.

pretenders in our party.

15! Democrats? Who needs Republicans with Democrats doing their job for them??

Disgusting war mongering morons who care nothing about this country. Or its people. Thank you for that list.

On this issue the President needs a lot of support. It is up to the people to make it clear to them that they do not speak for us.

But we seem to be distracted with Duck people and people being ogled and what Sarah Palin had to say lately.

Time to focus on SAVING LIVES before they do it again and kill another million human beings for profit.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has begun a process that could allow the Senate to vote as soon as next month to impose new sanctions on Iran if talks on its nuclear program fail, Senate aides said on Friday, despite a White House veto threat.

Aides and lawmakers said Reid had filed Rule 14 for the sanctions bill, which allows him to bypass the normal process of bringing a bill for a Senate vote through committee.

A spokesman for Reid did not respond to requests for comment.

Reid's action sets the stage for a potential battle between more than 25 Republican and Democratic senators who are co-sponsoring the new Iran sanctions legislation and the Obama administration and its supporters in Congress, including the Democratic heads of 10 Senate committees

Contact Harry and let him know it is NOT acceptable to undermine President Obama!

Tell him we expect the leadership of the Democratic Party to stand with President Obama and reject the right wing evil pushing us into another war.

Isn't that mysterious? With a "representative" government and all?

These are not "Democrats." They are infiltrating Third Way corporate fascists.

The Corporate Fascism Party now rules America, and it works in both Democratic and Republican costumes.
