An oldie but a goodie

An elderly gentleman approached the White House gates. As he did so, a uniformed secret service officer walked up to him on the othe side and asked what he could do for him.

"I'd like to see President Bush, please."

The secret service officer told him, "George W. Bush is no longer president of the United States."

The elderly man smiled and walked away.

The next day, that same elderly man was back at the White House gates, and again the secret service officer asked what he could do for him.

"I'd like to see President Bush, please."

The secret service officer looked bemused and said, "Sir, I already told you yesterday...George W. Bush is no longer president of the United States. Did you forget?"

The old man replied, "No, I just like hearing you say that."

"Nice goats, sir" observes a nearby Marine.

"I got one for Dick and one for Condoleeza", answers George.

"Nice trade, sir".

what a powerful book. I love him as an author.

of course, his bristling against Oprah's "book club" is a funny backstory as well.

Here's the NY Times book review of it:

I actually went out and bought this in hardcover--something I rarely do for new releases. I bought it at Borders after reading a few pages and getting hooked.

BORDERS, I miss you!!!!

very Interesting! And, of course, we lived the "psychosis" through those years. I have to say if not for DU which I joined in 2002(the reason I got a 'puter).. I don't know what I would have done. I certainly wouldn't have been watching corporatemediawhore$' narrative.

DU was extremely cathartic back then.

I remember Jonathon Franzen's name but nothing else about. I'll check this out.

We miss Borders on Island too.
