On Tuesday evening, Bill Maher sent out a snarky missive targeted at voters in Alabama and Mississippi holding elections for their Republican primaries, tweeting “Toothless Tuesday too tight to tally!”

I live in the South and we:

A. Have dentists; although, nationally, dental care coverage is being slashed from company healthcare policies to save on costs, so people, nationwide, may soon be going toothless.

B. We have shoe stores. That we don't wear shoes during the warmers months is because it's that damn hot here.

C. Don't vote against our best interests. I'm a Southerner and I vote Democratic. MANY Southerners may vote against their best interest, but to say that we all do is a falsity.

D. Don't drag down the country any more than the mid-west, particularly Utah, does. The MOST red states are in the mid-West, not the South.

This sheds a little more light on his quick defense of Limbaugh.

People condemn the "Southern Strategy;" which the Republicans have used to good effect for several decades but this divide and conquer tactic has only been made easier by the likes of Maher.

With regard to the videos that he displayed about Mississippi - I live in Louisiana and I thought it was all stereotype for a very long time, but as soon as I moved to a rural area, I realized that the rural areas in the south are VERY much the way he depicted them. With regard to racism - there's an interesting phenomenon occuring in Baton Rouge right now. "White Flight" as we call it in the south is obviously just as it sounds - caucasions have fled Baton Rouge, but they still work there. The state has had to go through mega $$$ improving the interstate system just outside Baton Rouge because SOOO many people moved to the rural areas surrounding BR that hours and hours of traffic back up every morning. I'll just say this to sum it up, I see people such as the ones depicted on Bill Maher's videos every single day. I do think Maher needs to chill with the toothless jokes, mainly because it is inaccurate when you consider the urban areas in the south and because the humor itself is immature and politically damaging to the democratic cause in the south.
