in the basement. I can't believe I actually bought it at Borders! I guess it was pretty popular back in the day if it received that kind of distribution. I'm sorry to say that it didn't do more good in stopping an illegal and unjust war, but it was an interesting trip down memory lane.
And the price per page was pretty steep. I paid over $8 according to the Borders UPC label still on there.

(8,361 posts)you meant another kind of stuffed. My mom and dad were friends with an older lady who had her longtime pet dog stuffed and sitting in the living room of her house. It was kind of creepy when we had to sit there and look at "Bo" staring at us.

(58,179 posts)It did its work, as best it could. Scott Ritter's incomprehensible self-immolation in a teenage sex scandal the February after it came out didn't exactly do wonders for outreach, but it made the NYT best-seller list the December before (and was the top seller at Newbury Comics for a bit, for which I am oddly proud). It moved the pile, and I like to think it informed in a slow-burn kind of way. By late 2005, Bush and his war-advocate buddies were running for their lives. I like to think I played a small part in that, at least.
Eleven years on, it retains the advantage of having been right...and I've never been more unhappy about being right in my entire goddam life.

EDIT To ADD: That "So you're the one" line reminded me of Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting. But then so did another person's comment about Matt Damon reading Howard Zinn's speech. His character from the movie roaming Robin Williams' office saying "you people are reading the wrong fucking books" and then he asks what fucking books and the kid says "People's History of The United States".
Well, I guess I need to go watch that movie again.

(1,406 posts)I think I will put it next on my list. Here is an interesting link for you. No I am not a glutton for punishment. I do like Mr Bacevich, local guy you probably know him. Lost a Son to combat, I think he still teaches at BU. The one "Lessons Learned" that floored me the most was Wolfowitz. All he was missing was the red nose and big shoes, because he is a clown. I wanted to respond and ask how his BEST BUDDY Ahmend Chalabri was doing.

PS: Had to add this. The spell check highlighted Wolfowitz' name and the first replacement word to come up was halfwits.

I am pretty sure one of my daughters took the Iraq War book when she moved out. Brat.
