So where does that score on the "good citizen/bad citizen" meter? Both of those happened today. Along with going to Lowes and ToysRUs. I thought about hand carving some wood alphabet blocks from driftwood, but I decided I didn't have time to invest. My 2 year old boy would be graduating from college before I got them done. And I ate at McDonalds.

(8,361 posts)as I was looking for specific things, and I thought I would share. As I said, I almost went to Hobby Lobby to see if they had what I needed, but I googled and found a Michaels.
so neener. why so serious? Life's too short for that.
EDIT TO ADD: I normally avoid Walmart and McDonalds whenever I can. I remember from a couple of months ago I was supposed to hate ToysRUs for something or other so that's why I mentioned that one too.

(8,361 posts)I'd say "lighten up" but then who knows what you'd accuse me of.
Interesting that you equate shopping at Walmart with "right wing". Uhhhh....ok.

(10,142 posts)I know I'm supposed to be avoiding them, plus foodies hold the place in high disdain. But I like their fried shrimp and steamed crab legs, we go there a few times a year. And the biscuits of course.

(8,361 posts)I had this client who loved eating there. Back in Portland in a city with awesome seafood places, we'd eat at Red Lobster once every couple of months.
May have to try them again for lunch soon.

(27,549 posts)I feel guilt. I only go as a last resort. When you need something specific they're the only game in town. But I draw the line at Walmart. So many local mom and pop stores have been put out of business there's no places to go.
But every month I go to a big flea market and get some great bargains. I needed a GPS and I brought one for $50. It works great and I helped a small business person.

(10,893 posts)was against shopping at WalMart, but I got over it and went there for the first time in about five years. Now I just see "buycotting" as a waste of time. Just me and a few other people refusing to shop at WalMart, Dominos, Amazon, etc. won't make a difference; the CEOs of all those businesses will continue airing commercials, making money, and stay rich regardless. Why torture myself fighting a losing battle and spend more money than necessary when times are already tough? I could do it if I had a nice-paying job, but right now, I can barely support myself with just financial aid.

(28,394 posts)Why are we supposed to hate Michael's?
I hate it for their high prices and crappy junk that they try to pass off as "crafts" materials ... but what is the P.C. rationale? Thanks!

(8,361 posts)Blanket "cheap Chinese crap taking away American jobs". I just mentioned I went to them after ALMOST going to Hobby Lobby who I think is suing so they don't have to provide health and including birth control on religious grounds or something like that. They might also have homophobic policies.
