Ignoring the scientific method and refusing to apply critical thinking however, that is just ignorance and it really doesn't deserve respect. First of all, Copernicus was wrong, he was merely less wrong than geocentrism. But that is the problem with popular history, it is almost always wrong. The person who discovered how the solar system actually works was Johannes Kepler. You see, Copernicus knew the old idea did not work and heliocentrism was his best guess. It worked better than the old model, but still did not predict the actual movements of the planets accurately. By experimenting with various values--on paper mostly--and comparing them to observations he acquired from Tycho Brahe, Kepler discovered that heliocentrism was the correct model, with the critical fact that planetary orbits are elliptical, not circular. His model agreed perfectly with observation except for Mercury, which required Einstein's theory of general relativity for an explanation.

Scientific knowledge is not free. It is the result of tremendous effort and personal commitment. That is why those who have made the sacrifices necessary to know WTF they are talking about do not appreciate being second guessed based on hunches, fantasy, or outright lies.

I have always wondered why when people leave DU they think it is there duty to tell us they are going. I mean if they are leaving can't they just go??? What is wrong with progressive thinking????
