Bridge to Nowhere

Christie's press conference was important, but is unlikely to help him in the long run. First, while some are attempting to spin his performance as a positive, we see numerous serious questions being asked on internet forums.

Second, while the press had opportunity to ask some valid questions, that format still allowed Christie a large degree of control in what he would answer, and how .....not to mention potential follow-up questions. This is very different than a setting in which he is either testifying before a legislative committee, or is being grilled by an attorney.

The possibility of civil cases, and potential criminal ones, makes it likely that one of the currently identified "fall guys" will decide they aren't going to pay the price for keeping silent. It will only take one to cause the dam to burst.

Enjoy the show.

1. My money is on Bridget Kelly to be the first to talk.I doubt she thought of this traffic snarling

scheme on her own. While I only saw the last few minutes of the press conference, Christie looked like a school kid that got caught doing something wrong and trying to talk, talk, talk his way out of it.

3. I agree.

She must realize that she's being put out to "twist in the wind," to borrow an old Watergate phrase. I'd expect that she has lawyers advising her already, on the best way to defend herself. And their interests are her, not Christie.

9. If it goes to criminal prosecution, I agree

One thing to be 'disgraced' and forced into a high-dollar K Street job for your efforts.

Whole other thing if it goes criminal.

2. Yeah, and Christie is terrified to fire any of those crooks

because if he does, they'll sing like canaries. He's probably on the blower practically 24/7 now, trying to raise donations from fascist billionaires to buy them off and keep them quiet.

5. This will be fascinating to watch - especially considering how horribly petty the vendetta.

Unfortunately in politics we've come to expect Rovian dirty tricks that actually gain something for the crook (steal an election, damage an opponent etc), but this - this was just petty and seriously dangerous for the people of Fort Lee - all for what? He endangered the lives of people for an endorsement he didn't even need. That's truly disturbing.

8. on nbc nightly news chuck todd had some good points...

and i'm not a todd fan, but....

paraphrasing ...begs the question.... 'if he/they did this as retribution, what did those that played along get?'
