The White House on Thursday challenged a group of senators to admit they are working to push the country toward war with Iran, upping the tension between the administration and Senate advocates of tough new sanctions amid nuclear negotiations.

"If certain members of Congress want the United States to take military action, they should be up front with the American public and say so," Bernadette Meehan, National Security Council spokeswoman, said in a statement. "Otherwise, it’s not clear why any member of Congress would support a bill that possibly closes the door on diplomacy and makes it more likely that the United States will have to choose between military options or allowing Iran’s nuclear program to proceed."

The "certain members" the White House is referring to are led by Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), who is pushing legislation, backed by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, that would tighten sanctions on the Iranian regime despite the ongoing negotiations.

Advocates of a peace deal with Iran warn that toughening sanctions now strengthens the hand of hard-liners in Iran who can argue the U.S. is not negotiating in good faith....(more)

confirms how strong the Jewish and defense contractor lobbies arein Congress. I suggest they are just as strong, if not stronger, than the NRA.

I fully support Israel and their right to exist and their right to defend themselves.

But it is clear the Jewish lobby representing Netanyahu and the defense contractors representing the likes of Halliburton, etc. have worked their way with money and whatever to get the Senate all worked up over Iran at a time when we need to be giving diplomacy a chance.

They don't want peace. They love war. It is how they make their money. Peace = no huge bonuses.

There are far, far more evangelical Christians who want their end times fantasy to come true than there are Jews pulling any strings.

comment calling AIPAC the "Jewish" lobby as opposed to the "Israel" lobby. It was proof the Republicans claimed that Hagel was anti-Israel. Of course, their real objection was that Hagel wasn't owned by the Israel lobby and had bucked them on a few occasions. He also is not a fan of war and wanted to avoid a war in the ME involving Iran and/or Israel. I wanted to mention that in case you plan on a political career.

other supporters are from red states that have a very tight election coming up. Look at who is in the toss up category for reelection in 14 and you'll see the remaining senators. Hagan, Beigich, Pryor et ux. They have to play it very close to the gop right now or else they'll lose and we'll have a 100% republican senator in their place and possibly lose the majority in the Senate.

Port Authority Head Seethed Over Fort Lee Lane Closures: 'I Pray That No Life Has Been Lost'

bolding mine:

Days into the traffic bottleneck, Foye seethed. "To be clear," he wrote in his email, "I will get to the bottom of this abusive decision which violates everything this agency stands for; I intend to learn how PA process was wrongfully subverted and the public interest damaged to say nothing of the credibility of this agency."

Foye also wrote: "I believe this hasty and ill-advised decision violates Federal law and the laws of both States."

The office of the U.S. Attorney in New Jersey announced it was launching an investigation into whether the closures were criminal.

Soon after Foye sent his email, Baroni forwarded the message to David Samson, chairman of the Port Authority -- a Christie appointee. He attached a note: "General, can I call you on this now?"
