S.E. Cupp: Chris Christie can resign and win the presidency

“He’ll say, ‘What do you want from me? I resigned. I did what’s best for New Jersey. I made a mistake, I took responsibility for it, and now I want to be your president,’” Cupp argued.

CNN host S.E. Cupp offered advice to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Wednesday in the wake of increasingly damning allegations related to the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge: quit now and live to run for president another day.

“I’ll tell you what will happen: his supporters, both in New Jersey and across the nation will come out,” Cupp argued to colleague Jake Tapper. “He will be a martyr and a hero, and over the next two years, he’ll quietly go about plotting a presidential campaign.”

Tapper pointed out that Christie was not apologetic following reports that members of his staff orchestrated the gridlock to punish Fort Lee, New Jersey Mayor Mark Sokolich for not joining other Democrats in endorsing Christie’s re-election bid. Instead, Christie said in a statement that he was “misled” by a staff member, and vowed, “People will be held responsible for their actions.”

Christie is done . . . period. He can quit, wait to be arrested or impeached. None of it matters because he is done. If they don't find another iota of evidence, which I believe they will, he's done. Who's trusting him after this crap?

Only other possibility at this point is Jeb...and I think they can't handle that idea, for two reasons:

1)He's too Nixonian even for them(not necessarily on the ethical level...on the level of personality-he's got Original Milhous' emotional combo plate of unjustified resentment and inexplicable paranoid bitterness);

2)They can't get their head around the idea half-Anglo, half-Latino kids in the First Family. Can't have no "mixin'", y'know.

Finally, they can't ditch Christie because ditching Christie means admitting they were wrong to get behind him in the first place. 'Pugs don't DO that.

but that's their bench. I can't imagine a Bush/Clinton faceoff all over again--that would just be so, so wrong. The Bush brand is still badly damaged, and Poppy and Babs are too sick and old to pull strings for their pathetic spawn now.

Cupp is freaking hilarious all by herself and she just hands Colbert the Platinum..

It's not about what a "hero" Christie but.. how this GWB Scandal is "Too Complicated for the rest of the Country". Colbert agrees.. No one can understand "Revenge and Traffic"..

But to think it's going to be a walk in the park like these people seem to believe is stupid. Every other candidate running is going to throw his palling around with Obama at him as well as Christie making gay conversion therapy illegal as well as not fighting against gay marriage. IF he gets it, he'll squeak by.

Maybe she could be on the ticket with him as the VP candidate.

Probably won't have much time to put together that presidential campaign.

Maybe Cupp can organize the campaign and run it for him while he's on trial?
