Just a personal note before I dash out the door.

Yesterday was the 24th anniversary of my sobriety. No congrats needed...I'd only like to say one thing.

If you are struggling with addiction, than you CAN get HERE from THERE!

PEACE!

The only addiction I ever had was tobacco, but alcohol is what broke up my mom and dad's marriage.

Saying "no more" to whatever you're addicted to isn't the end: It's a beginning.

Twenty-four years of living-- one day at a time.

Congrats!

happily,

Fantastic message of inspiration!

My man celebrated his twentieth year and said it was finally an exhilarating feeling, to look back at where he'd come from.

Kicking any addiction is a huge deal. The good news is that it's possible. The bad news is that it's necessary if you want a reasonable life.

Opiates. 1st time at rehab (2010) didn't take but so far, so good this time. He'll be clean 1 year on Feb. 9. Had to drop out of college in his senior year, plans on finishing in the fall.
Hang in there. Professional help made all the difference but also just plain growing up. Interesting that 75% of the patients at the rehab were male, mostly young.

...Spent 6 weeks in an out of state rehab this summer (lots of young male adolescents ).... it was a terrific place in Illinois. He was in outpatient treatment for about a year (6 months before inpatient and ~ 6 months after inpatient), but decided it was no longer helping. I don't think he is currently drinking or smoking, but ....

This is the scariest damned thing ever!

Congratulations to your son on his year sober .... watching my kid .... I can see how hard it is and how hard your son must have struggled ... a year clean, is a year clean. He deserves a lot of credit!

On edit: I forgot to thank you for sharing ... as you know, there is some comfort knowing one is not "alone" as they confront this.

as they say in the program. I don't know if you attend AA, but it has helped many people close to me. I know how difficult overcoming addiction can be. Congratulations!

Alcohol killed my mother. She was 26 years old when she left a bar and on her way to a friends house she fell down, hit her head and was knocked out. She froze in the snow.

I salute you.
