Happened to see the last few minutes of Chris Mattbews. He was warning someone that the rules are different when one runs for president, that the scrutiny is much greater, and that things can't be overlooked as they might be for a mayor it governor.
While it might have been aimed at someone else, it really seemed aimed at Chris Cristy and Michelle Brown (who some allege is his mistress).
I know relatively little about NJ politics. Thoughts?

(135,874 posts)from m$nbc.....Poll: Christie cruising through bridge scandal (so far)
Nearly 70 percent of Americans say the bridge-closure scandal engulfing Chris Christie has not changed their opinion about the New Jersey governor, according to a new NBC News/Marist poll. In addition, 44 percent of respondents believe hes telling the truth about his knowledge of the events surrounding the controversy.
And far more Americans view him as a strong leader rather than as a bully.
But the survey also shows that the potential 2016 Republican candidate has lost ground to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in an early hypothetical presidential match up and now trails her by 13 points.
Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion, explains that, overall, this is good news for Christie.

(297,655 posts)"New Jersey Republicans are sticking by the governor, as he actually saw an increase from them. Last month 85% approved of his job performance. The latest poll saw it increase to 89%. However, independents and Democrats started rejecting Christie. The governor saw support among independents fall by 11% and Democrats dropped by 9%.
Where you see a big change is how favorable a view New Jerseyians have of Chris Christie in light of these events. After Superstorm Sandy, Christie saw his favorability rating go up to 70%. In the latest poll, that has tumbled all the way down to 44%. Only 24% of Democrats have a favorable view of him and 44% of independents. It appears that Christie is losing that so-called bipartisan support he enjoyed in the state for the past couple of years."

(13,877 posts)cohorts, already vetted personal issues, get to know all the members of the press, have social relationships, etc., it's one level of political power.
But when you go national, it starts all over as now you have to sell yourself...mostly to those to whom you are a newcomer...and prove yourself...and face the vetting and the skeletons all over again, only to everyone in the nation.
I've read a number of times that Christie had been warned that his New Jersey act and personal/political skeletons they take for granted won't hold up under national scrutiny. And Americans like presidents that are physically fit. And apparently there are some physical problems...almost assuredly high blood pressure. That's why Mitt didn't pick him as VP...too many issues.

(6,119 posts)Interesting looking back at this with everything MSNBC has already made public.
I still think Cristie has really big issues lurking from his days as a Federal prosecutor. Think many of his cronies do , too.
