Facebook crap all throughout the internet now

It doesn't seem to matter, any website you go to has those stupid "like" buttons and other facebook crap like "share this", Amazon.com, yahoo news, its everywhere. No, I don't want to share what I just bought on Amazon with everyone.

Facebook has taken over the internet, and everyone seems much obliged to have it on their various web sites. I have extensions that are supposed to make it so Facebook can't track me but still every now and then somehow it gets through and they know I'm on Facebook somehow and those damn buttons show up.

Everybody is jumping on the "social networking" bandwagon, which means that it hardly works anymore. And after all, what kind of people join the Facebook page for Kraft Velveeta cheese and similar products?

Along with email and snail mail. So why the need to be on Facebook? So you can look up your first grade crush Sorry, but I really don't get the mad rush to Facebook, the mad scramble to pour out your most intimate thoughts and facts for public consumption.

And from what I've seen and heard, Facebook is nothing but a privacy problem.

or mailing address is difficult or impossible. I am in a Facebook group from my High School where we all can connect with each other. I also have been able to get in touch with many College friends I have lost track of.
I am sorry if none of the friends you made in the past mean anything to you.
I have found it very rewarding.
If you think Facebook is all about posting inane trivialities many times a day, you don't really understand Facebook.
Facebook can be whatever you want to make of it.
I do not post anything that compromises my privacy and I have my sharing options exclusively for my friends.

I use it for the same purpose as you, keeping in track with old friends, but I make sure that my actual conversations with them occur in OTHER places (like over the phone or via email). I have no desire to have the personal details of my past collected in one convenient spot with a company whose business model is to profit from them.

there's most likely a good reason for that. And FB is also good for conditioning us to be approval-seeking sheeple. The herd mentality is very dangerous.

You will now be tracked around the internet by Facebook. They are not in the business of providing an internet platform for you to chat and share, but rather to mine as much data on you as possible, and they are very good at it.

I am still LOL.

Tell me this isn't a hoot:

Peggy Keller After giving this much thought, I have decided to divorce my husband and become a lesbian. It is really the only way I can ensure that I do not have a non-compliant government regulated pregnancy. Unless, of course, I am raped and you force me to marry my rapists like they do in some countries. Should I mail my driver's license in to avoid the shredding lines?

Ren Autrey ‎"Dear Governor Brownback, after years of going to Planned Parenthood for my women's healthcare needs as I have been self-employed and often uninsured - I learned you have become the all knowing wizard of womanly ways. So I come to you as I am in need of my annual exam once again and would like to schedule an appointment at the same cost-effective rate, skill, and compassion that Planned Parenthood has offered me in the past."

Aaron Broadley Dear Mr. Brownback, my wife needed an emergency hysterectomy when she was 25 years old. We've tried to move on, but it just seems so useless to keep her around without being able to fulfill her childbearing purpose. Could your office send a letter recommending divorce? I know i can count on your support, thank you.

Orion Satori Hi, Senator, I was thinking of hooking up a webcam in my girlfriend's uterus so you could constantly monitor things more efficiently. Are their tax credits for that sort of thing?

I've seen the argument that it is essentially theft when I block ads, but when you examine the ads you find they're full of trackers. The way I see it, that means that they violated the implicit social contract first...

The problem you're seeing is the economy of scale. Everyone flocked to facebook and now we're paying the price for creating a juggernaut whose business model is getting you to fork over every detail of your life. And the consequences are increasing -- look at the employers who seem to be able to compel you to hand over the self-reported of your personal life to them as part of the application process.

Facebook is probably helping to change politics more than DU ever will. We are always talking to the choir here, but on Facebook, there are a lot of political debates going on that are making a difference. Case in point, we live in the rd, rural area of Maine and my wife posts exclusively to FB. Within her circle there are probably more Republicans than Democrats, mostly women, that she's engaged in and she's telling me her links to progressive sites that are exposing the Republican agenda are making a difference - a few have announced that they've changed their political registration to Indie or Democrat..

Me, I spend way too much time on the internet now, I really don't want to create yet another time sink which I'm sure would happen if I started posting to FB. The one thing that aggravates me is that I'm seeing more and more blogs integrate their posting software with FB...unless you have a FB account, you can't comment.

25. And do you ever question why that is?
Sat Mar 17, 2012, 11:59 AM
Mar 2012

I think it's very ominous and points to the desire to control the public. So easy to do...

I have a phony FB account that allows me to view other people's profiles (depending upon how open they leave them). I will NEVER have a FB. I once looked at someone's account whom I knew and her wall was exposed. I know that was a security lapse. I think smart phones are crazy, too.

1) If you're on Windows, edit your "hosts" file: http://cariblogger.com/2010/07/how-to-block-facebook-using-hosts-file/

2) If you use Firefox, install the AdBlock Plus extension. Then, right-click on those Like buttons and other FB graphics and choose "block image".

3) Also on Firefox, add the NoScript extension and choose "forbid facebook.com" from its pop-up menu.

I don't want to post pics of myself. I am quite content to just hang out here and talk about politics or discuss television shows or my diabetes on other various boards. But Facebook is too much work for me and to much like an invasion of privacy. Eventually it will die down. My Mom is on more then me but I just am not into it. I just ignore it.
