Most frustrating thing about applying for jobs

(Besides not being called back) is that real full time jobs usually require nothing more than a CV and a cover letter while remedial part time jobs make me jump through all sorts of stupid hoops to apply in the first place.

I know why they do that, but still, it's almost seems more trouble than it's worth.

Oh well... Back to grind.

It was worth it in the long run to ger the chance, but all I wanted at first was a job, any job, IMMEDIATELY.

CFL, I just know that you have a chance at the better jobs. Hang in there and try not to freak out. I know it's hard. Good hunting.

Back ground checks and urinalysis for 8/hr jobs. In the mean time, I have management offers pouring in but I'm not interested in 60 hour work weeks at this point in my life. Very frustrating.

The unemployment rate here, Amarillo, is supposedly 4%. while it is over 7% for those of us over 50 and not in construction or oil.

"personality" and "psychological" tests that they claim are measuring whether or not you will be a "good fit for our company" but what they're really doing is measuring just how compliant, meek and submissive you are. As someone who's had some training in the social sciences and who had professors in college who helped "consult" in the development of their local retailers' "tests", I was fully aware of what bullshit they were the few times I took them and knew how to take them to "pass."

Too bad they don't give CEO's, upper management and Wall Street fuckers tests on morality, integrity and character.

I've had temp jobs for 2 1/2 years and have been laid off (again) for the last two weeks (I pray I get called back to my lousy job on Monday). My biggest complaint is no face time-I've applied through various internet agencies over and over again and either get no response or a reply 3 or 4 weeks later saying they have chosen another candidate. Another thing is the on-line universities that call you before you even hit the "submit" button. Sorry, if I had the money to got to school-I'd go to school! What a racket!! Please, don't tell me to hang in there-my 95-year old mother is loaning me money to pay my insurance. After having a middle-class life (due to hard work) I'm at a crossroads.

I kind of wish we were in the good old days when you got some face time by handing in the paper application.
