Me in my Kitchen listening to the Godfather as I cook, so it's important to tell someone who gets it

that a few days ago I saw Chris Christie answer a young boy's question about what his favorite movie is. "You're too young to see it" said Christie to the boy "it's The Godfather".

Surprise anyone?
Anyone?

I posted something about it but it sank like a stone/

Given his modus operandi and the current investigations, I thought it was a very odd choice.

The Godfather is ranked as the second greatest film in American cinema.

The Godfather is widely regarded as one of the greatest films in world cinema[3]—and as one of the most influential, especially in the gangster genre.[4] Now ranked as the second greatest film in American cinema (behind Citizen Kane) by the American Film Institute,[5] it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1990.[6]

A lot of people in Christie's age bracket would say that The Godfather was their favorite film. My son in law is one.

My favorite film is a toss up between 2001: A Space Odyssey and Avatar.

It's one of my life long favorites, after all, I'm listening to it right now. No question about it's popularity and status as one of the 10 most admired/beloved films. There is something in every one of us that craves unlimited power, no?

I still think it's funny about Christie - and honestly - I don't have to explain that, do I?

just saw you listed your favorites.
I have so many I had to make a conscious choice one day and I chose: Orfeu Negro (Black Orpheus)

There are many good reasons to pick The Godfather as your favorite movie.

Perhaps Christie does indeed feel he his somewhat like the Godfather. I worked in the aerospace industry for 37 years so perhaps my choices for favorite movies are not surprising.

Still my son in law's favorite movie is The Godfather but he drives an 18 wheeler for a living. He hardly views himself as a mob leader.

In passing the novel The Godfather was in my opinion much better than the movie. I would rank it in the top 25 novels that I have read. My favorite novel of all time is Ender's Game but I have yet to watch the movie.

those are my favorites by Orson Scott Card other than Ender's game. But then, this happened and do no longer read his works.

with David Remnick in the latest interview.. from "New Yorker." I posted snips of the interview here on DU...but not the part about Obama having "The Godfather" as his fave movie.

For many of us of a certain age...that was an incredible Movie that will stay with us the rest of our lives.''

but...fascinating that both Christie and Obama have that in common...along with others of us.

that knowing he loves (i.e.identifies) with the Godfather I get it why he had the operation to staple his stomach.

As I understand it that's a very dangerous procedure, and Christie is dropping weight like mad now. I'm impressed with the courage, but think his choices were quite limited if he wanted to become President. He could not have achieved it and/or stayed alive as a morbidly obese man

They are favorites I introduced my grandson to when he was old enough so he would know about it and where all the famous lines come from. He, too, is now a fan.
It is a movie that strikes in our hearts for many reasons, all depending on our diverse life experiences and aspirations. I personally respond to the raw power the most. I think so does Christie.

(I had a sign on my bedroom door for many years: "All I want is a warm bed, a kind word, and unlimited power."
As you can see I have a well-tempered personality )

I think Christie is oblivious to his image. There's a phenomenon in communications called "impression management." Good communicators are good impression managers. It means they are cognizant of the impression they are creating in the eyes of others and they temper it so they can build good relationships. It doesn't mean they are dishonest, it just means they are sensitive to how they come off.

Whether "The Godfather" is really his favorite movie is almost beside the point, or at least as I see it. He has failed to make a connection between his own behavior and the tactics of mobsters. For him to answer the way he did shows he has not made that connection.
