Marijuana Advocates Call On White House To Fire DEA Chief

A leading marijuana reform group is calling on the White House to fire the chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration over a speech last week in which she reportedly criticized President Barack Obama for comparing marijuana's dangers to alcohol.

Two sheriffs told the Boston Herald that DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart called out the president's remarks in a speech at a Major Counties Sheriffs' Association meeting last Tuesday.

The Marijuana Policy Project pointed on Monday to that speech, as well as a congressional hearing in which Leonhart refused to say whether marijuana is more harmful than crack or heroin, in arguing that it is time for her to go.

"Whether Ms. Leonhart is ignorant of the facts or intentionally disregarding them, she is clearly unfit for her current position," Dan Riffle, the group's director of federal policies, said in a statement.

“The DEA administrator’s continued refusal to recognize marijuana’s relative safety compared to alcohol and other drugs flies in the face of the president’s commitment to prioritizing science over ideology and politics," the statement continued. "She is neglecting the basic obligations of her job and fundamentally undermining her employer’s mission. This would be grounds for termination in the private sector, and the consequences for Ms. Leonhart should be no different.”

Leonhart was apparently incensed that...

I know now why marijuana has been scheduled a one ... the misinformation and obfuscation was purported and sold by alcohol companies to limit the competition ... and the Kennedy family is one of the biggest contributors to this misinformation and they have gained the most from alcohol consumption ... look into Kennedy roots if you don't believe me ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_P._Kennedy,_Sr.

Marijuana has not killed one person from overdose .... every other drug known to mankind has not only killed people but they continue today to kill people ...

Here's another quote from the New England Journal of Medicine:

"It has been estimated conservatively that 16,500 NSAID-related deaths occur among patients with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis every year in the United States. This figure is similar to the number of deaths from the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and considerably greater than the number of deaths from multiple myeloma, asthma, cervical cancer, or Hodgkin’s disease. If deaths from gastrointestinal toxic effects from NSAIDs were tabulated separately in the National Vital Statistics reports, these effects would constitute the 15th most common cause of death in the United States. Yet these toxic effects remain mainly a “silent epidemic,” with many physicians and most patients unaware of the magnitude of the problem. Furthermore the mortality statistics do not include deaths ascribed to the use of over-the-counter NSAIDS." (Wolfe M. MD, Lichtenstein D. MD, and Singh Gurkirpal, MD, “Gastrointestinal Toxicity of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs”, The New England Journal of Medicine, June 17, 1999, Vol. 340, No. 24, pp. 1888-1889.)

To "cleanse" the people of the state of California from the menace of medicinal marijuana.

Our dispensaries have been closed, often with only 20% of them still operating. Close to ten thousand well paying jobs at those dispensaries have been lost.

For FY 2011, there was 125 million dollars of tax revenue that came into the coffers of California from the med marijuana situation. That revenue would run my County's school district for eight years! And guarantee more money each year that what we get now!

Yet still Holder kicked the MM movement to the curb.

If that doesn't make you mad, the treatment of poorer people and immigrant communities by the DOJ agents, who along with ICE agents go into neighborhoods and rips the families apart, without warrants, simply because the climate allows pot to be grown ought to make you mad. Their actions are a clear violation of any sense of decency.

these idiots who think their opinion is as valid as science and facts. The safety of marijuana shouldn't even have to be discussed. The facts tell the story.

Shirley Sherrod was fired by text message on the side of the road for far less.

Of course it was conservatives who wanted Ms Sherrod fired.
