This discussion thread was locked by Skinner (a host of the General Discussion forum).
"Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top Al Qaeda leaders who have been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement."
That was said by our Dear Leader, American-style.
Now pray tell, how many of you would have been frothing at the mouth if Dubya uttered such words? Now?
Nothing. But. Crickets.

If he had "uttered such words" and had the truth to back it up, I don't think anybody would have been "frothing at the mouth".
Of course, had he listened to intelligence reports and warnings, 9/11 might never have happened...but I guess that's a different story.

(55,334 posts)But if you look at why Obama said that--he was being asked about being called an appeaser of terrorism by the people who supported ignoring Afghanistan and attacking Iraq instead. It was blunt, but it was a pitch perfect response to a bluntly wrong accusation.
On the other hand, Bush said damn few things that involved specific numbers. Frankly, I'd be surprised if he ever knew just how many al-Qaeda operatives he'd had killed. It was not very many after 2003, by the way. However, for the record, killing al-Qaeda leaders is a good thing.

(1,701 posts)I like Barack Obama on a personal level, have donated to him up until this change allowing U.S. citizens to be grabbed in country and have 'extraordinary rendition' done to them as was done with alleged 'enemy combatants' under the illegal presidency of the Smirk and Snarl show. And I've left the 2012 sticker I got with my first monthy on my car.
So, I am not happy, I'm not sure completely what I am going to do, but I am upset, very very upset.

(3,596 posts)Obama has not been a public cowboy saying things like "get him dead or alive", "mission accomplished", etc.
Obama has been calculating, cool and determined and whether it is OBL, top AQ leaders, Al-Zwahiri, the Somali pirates, etc. he has not boasted of these nor taken the cowboy position.
The reason I ridiculed GWB was because he was full of shit. He had no idea what he was doing and didn't achieve any of his objectives. He invaded Afghanistan to root out AQ, capture OBL and displace the Taliban. His success was hardly complete.
He invaded Iraq on trumped up charges of WMD that led to a bloodbath, not at all his predictions of an easy win. Tell that to the families of the over 4K Americans killed in this senseless war not to mention the 100K Iraqis killed.
I don't support everything this President has done including his continued use of rendition and extension of what I consider extra-constitutional authorities. But I would give him more credibility in these matters than GWB anytime.

(7,981 posts)YOUR COMMENTS:
This is over-the-top flame bait. This is poster is off to a bad start.
JURY RESULTS
A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Mon Dec 19, 2011, 05:04 PM, and voted 1-5 to LEAVE IT ALONE.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Obama did say that, and I don't see a problem even if Bush said it.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Opinion, strongly stated, but still opinion
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: I agree word for word with the alerter. Not only is it over the top flamebait but it is very offensive and not appropriate on this site. And I think this user must be looked at more closely because I do not think he or she is here for constructive purposes and is most likely a disruptor
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: marginally over the top, a little bit flame baity, but not worthy of deletion. Besides the OP looks a bit silly given the responses. If anything this OP has exactly the opposite effect from what the poster intended.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: The post while not entirely in context, does not rise to the level of an intentionally derisive or insensitive post, nor does it rise to the level of flame bait.

(15,459 posts)It was an entirely apt -- and factual -- response to utterly false accusations of "appeasing" al Qaeda.
If Democrats had falsely accused Bush of "appeasing" al Qaeda (if Bush had killed bin Laden and most of his top lieutenants) I would have been more aghast at Dems showing such utter disregard for the facts and for the intelligence of their constituents.
As has been pointed out in another post, context is everything. The Republican presidential candidates are constantly spouting the false meme that Obama is an appeaser, so blunt and to-the-point language is exactly what was called for.
